Judith Butler refuses "Zivilcouragepreis" awarded at Christopher Street Day on 19/06/2010 in Berlin. Unfortunately, the first seconds are missing. Butler gives her speech in german to a cheering audience before one of the organizers starts making a fool of himself.

Some comments reveal severe misinterpretation of Butler and/or discriminatory thoughts of the comments' authors. In fact, some are turning themselves against muslims or members of specific states/regions *in general* and thus demonstrate how real Butlers concerns are today. I suggest thinking (at least) twice before expressing yourself! ;)

It's not about political correctness, it's about racism. Some cultural observations coupled with a lot of American propaganda should not cause prejudice toward an entire people, particularly when the observers in question actively oppose prejudice. Civil liberties cannot be reserved only for people following a particular Western liberal ideology - it makes hypocrites. By comparing Nazis with Muslims, you're grouping what today are small pockets of hate groups with 23% of the world population.

You didn't negate anything I said, and no one's claiming Muslims are a race, I was referring to Butler's issue in general. Why tolerate the intolerant? It's something which has to be done if you champion yourself as a progressive civilisation, when you're fanatical or imperialist regarding culture you simply mirror those you oppose. And I repeat, Muslims constitute 23% of the population, how can you say 'they don't want to grant human rights'? Be more specific otherwise you sound ignorant.

If she thought the mainstream CSD was morally corrupt, then she could have gone to the Transgenialer CSD. But I suppose being paid airfare and staying in a comfortable hotel paid by those she is up against is better than having to pay for your transportation and staying in a squat. 0:32 - she says "with racism, including antimuslim racism" - not "antisemitism" she seems to think that it is racist to talk about islamic homophobia. which isn't really surprising, as she also believes that hamas & hezbollah are progressive movement and part of the global left. you really have to ignore reality to come to such bizarre conclusions.
