Didn't this video have different music? What was the name of the original soundtrack? I think it gave this a totally different feel.

It was just a drill (to trap the arms), Both those players know how to fight exceptionally well. Throw real foot sweeps during kumi kata, you might just catch someone slipping, and you will have an ippon instead of a dominant grip! If it doesn't work take your grip. I like ashi waza it is my favorite, I will usually have swept a couple time before anyone has gotten a grip.

What exactly is the objective of this particular exercise?

to break the opponents grip and get your grip...

MbisonBalrog In case haven't figured it out by now: It's about internalizing a gripping sequence. Going through it over and over increases speed, accuracy, etc. All of that obviously has a positive impact on your competition performance.

Franco, do you practice Judo yourself, or are you just a keen observer? I used to do some in my childhood, but later did some other stuff, pls check out my Empty Hands vid on my profile page and leave a comment. Grazie tante :-) PS I trained with the second teacher in the video for around 2 years.

ehh... its okay. but theres more to grip fighting than just upperbody. i throw a fake sweep to throw them off and immediately get my other grip.
