As someone who really having fight with multiple people many times, got mugged, I can say the chance to survive is slim and I am lucky those guys don't use weapons and most only interested in chocking and groping me. As I mentioned before I got a nice shoe print on my back as I managed to run away in one the occasion. I don't mean that we won't survive at all, but it is no longer following the "how to survive" rule book, too many variables and variations that we can say "it is just luck", if we survive it doesn't mean we're good in martial art either. But I can say that whenever we got into fight, get ready to get injured and pain, we will get injuries even if we win and survive. We don't feel it at the time, but it come slowly and sometimes at places we don't aware off. My right shoulder is still painful today sometimes, I must got it from one of those fights.

Theres some arts that train in it in mind. Advance level aiki-jujitsu and advance level aikido. Deal with issue of multiple opponents. The principle (if surrounded) being: 1) breech circle 2) draw opponents away. Keep moving. So that they are all facing you in one direction. Then you can deal with them one on one or run. Others include using thier bodies to shield one against the other. Bagua uses this also and the use of foot work to go around multiple opponents. etc. In advance silat, lankas (foot work) are use to out maneuver multiple opponents to go behind their backs etc.

The multiple opponent training done in aikido actually looks useful to develop movement and awareness. Applying it to a non-compliant martial art like judo or sambo could be great imo

Good video as always! Engaging multiple opponents is always a last resort and your mentality is key to surviving. Always remember, no rules and use anything as a weapon. Train the same way. Get out of the dojo and train at a park, in the street etc. Train hard and stay safe 💮

I just watched a vid on the 52 Block style. Strange that few people think of prison as a place to develop martial arts. Prison is where you are most likely to fight multiple attackers AND be unable to flee from them so there's sure to be some crossover between that system and those of the orient.

Awareness, avoidance, and action. Be aware of your capabilities and limitations, aware of your environment (setting, individuals, and groups). Avoid trouble, high risk settings, and questionable interactions. If in fight, avoid opposition’s power and control. Act early. Either move away (walk, or run - depending on the situation), or attack before being attacked. Be prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally. Pressure test your awareness and self defense, regularly. Adjust, and adapt frequently. A quick mind, and composure/control under emotional and physical stress are essential. Many highly physically capable people are overwhelmed, and beaten by physically inferior people as they had not experienced the extreme emotional and physical stress of self defense previously. Reconsider your behavior if you are with your wife, children, or other high value : low capability people. Our brain is our most important weapon. Build, and protect, it.

I live in a country where one of the most common attacks is gangs of 3 to 15 guys beating people to rob them, i was attacked by 5 once, my strategy was to run like hell and one one would get close i eould either throw a straight kick(front, side or back) or do a quick throw... I really like the concept of using someone as shield. That's why I love sumo. Sumo slaps and shoves to the face, together with the grappling to control and push is a very good thing. You can also throw someone into another person. So using sacrificial throw is very dangerous because you will end up on the ground. So sumo throws where you stay standing up, is the best option.

Dean and Dan are beasts in their own right. These demonstrations shows why BJJ as a default in self defence on the street is nonsense. You will inevitably get your head stomped in with multiple opponents and cannot use one opponent against the other as a shield. Even if someohow you managed to it would not be for long. The default should be punching in throats and ear drums. If you're athletic unlike me, run. Something that is impossible on the ground or grappling. Another great video Chadi.

I believe that size matters a lot when facing even just two opponents. If they’re taller and heavier, it’s tough. Having martial art and self defense skills sure helps, but to rely completely on that against bigger opponents (like 10cm taller and 20-30kgs heavier) requires a high level of training and fitness, which many (if not most) people don’t have/can’t achieve in short time. Maybe the best way out of a multiple opponent scenario is a non-lethal weapon: tasers/dazzling lights/pepper sprays. Another option, though less easy to “always have with you” but valuable both for self defense and for company in life in general might be a (large) dog.

I haven't had much time to comment on your material lately, but I still find your admiration for the Japanese arts very strange. Yes, I share your admiration of Judo because it is, or at least was, a very efficient sparring grappling style with less rules and a very humble approach. But when it comes to swordfighting, and sometimes self-defense, these old black&white kendo dudes are laughable. I mean, just because Japan made an extremely conservative move and halted time for 250 years, doesn't make their martial arts better, if they are really not any better. No direct disrespect to Kendo or ju-jitsu as such, but put it in a perspective outside Hollywood and the Last Samurai. And as much as I love Kurosawa, he tells a glorious account with the script of William Shakespeare mostly. Fact is that these deadly mysterious samurai, their Iado, Kendo and Ju-jitsu is a product of 250 years of total isolation and boredom, where they waylaid peasants for fun. They knew nothing about real war. Fact is that most ju-jitsu development (Brazilian or not) have happened in the West in the last few decades. There are so many KZbin-videos where Kendo practitioners meet HEMA longsword fighters, and despite not making these silly kiai-screams, they usually win. And why is that? Simple. The high medieval knight was better trained had better armor and the longsword was a vastly superior sword to the katana. Put the English or french army of the late 15th century and drop them on Japan, and they would steam roll over all of them. They wouldn't stand a chance against a medieval knight, trained from the years of four. That's Bushido for you. Then times changed over and over again, the europeans adapted, but the japanese did not. I don't think that many fighting style except Kano's were pointless. It was Dutch and British sailors learning a few tricks, but no more.
@jjs38903 жыл бұрын
While some of what you say is true, you seem to have a biased and inaccurate opinion of Japanese arts. It’s true that after the Boshin civil war, the samurai were outlawed and a select few kept their schools open but commoners we’re the students. After WWII, combat practice (sparing, drills, sensitivity training etc) was illegal and schools were only allowed to train in katas for preservation. That’s why most schools today look like a living historical record. Because that’s all they are. That being said, there is a surge in some schools today bringing back Gekkiken (sword mixed with jujitsu sparing, and what later became kendo). Sparing samurai jujitsu safely is impossible but using the safer judo throws and format, you can at least get some live training. Iaido, kendo, aikido & judo etc are reflections of samurai arts but very different in their training and purpose.

Don't go to the ground in a real fight. If somebody else comes in against you while you're rolling, your chances decrease ridiculously. If they have an effective weapon, you're pretty much done. If they pull a firearm from more than a few feet away, good luck, regardless of what fight training you have. Put the other person on the ground in a real fight. Judo can be GREAT for doing this while remaining on your feet, and a comprehensive Judo school will also incorporate strikes in its training. Striking-focused martial arts training would probably be a better complement to your grappling skillset than Judo striking though, but I'm especially not a big fan of boxing as a sole source of striking skills. It's a great base to start from, as it teaches movement and "liveness" well, but it doesn't incorporate many useful strikes/parries/traps found in the likes of Muy Thai, Chuan Fa, or even TKD. Stand-up grappling, like Chin Na is my favorite for real fights. It's easier pleading "minimum amount of force necessary" to a LEO or judge if your assailant isn't visibly lumped/busted/broken really bad, hospitalized, or dead. There's also a reason why many po-po departments discourage chokes by policy. Focus on stand-up arrest, submission, disarm, and come-along techniques for real fights. Even more importantly, focus on de-escalation.

Hey Mr. Varga. Sorry, but you should use some mouth wash. Haha. Maeda the great grand daddy of Kosen JuDo in Brazil, known as (BJJ, Gracie Jeewwiii JooiiiJJeeeetszzu), didn't even arrive in Brazil until 1914, two years after that video was recorded in 1912. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2HFkomphLRmfJI Hahaha! This is pure JuDo. No such thing called BJJ, or Gracie whatever. It's Kosen Judo. I don't mind the term BJJ, but naming it Gracie is a disgrace. Because what happened was Kano collected several JuJutsu schools under one roof and shared the arts. JuDo has multiple lineages from many teachers not just Kano. Instead of being selfish and claiming it as his, he named it JuDo, which was also a neutral name. Same as many KenJutsu (sword techniques) compete under KenDo. Kano made grappling Open Source. A term used in software. It's open to use the code, but if you use it, you must share your code with everyone as well. Open source code is shared by everyone. Same with Judo. Gracies particularly the nasty Rorion tried to close the system. Like not teaching advanced moves/strategies. He even sued his cousin Carley over the Gracie name, and banned his brother Rickson from the UFC because he opened his own school. Anyways. Sorry about the tangent. Haha. Enjoy the channel. Chadi puts in a lot of work to make these for us. Cheers.
