Illiadis Did a clinic for us and is a beast. He’s built like a powerhouse. He had just gotten back from training with Travis Stevens in jujitsu at Renzo gracies. These guys could spend six months in Brazil (or top US competitive teams ) working on guard and guard pass and kill everybody.

Definitely the top grappling athletes in many countries go into judo or wrestling and the explosiveness and power they have is way above what we see even at the top level of BJJ. Sport BJJ is a very odd discipline where subtleties of position win matches so I don't think they would win titles. I think they would give top guys fits in the dojo, especially when guard pulling is not allowed. The guy does look like he could tear you in half.

For the bjjers here: He's rolling over onto his back to be nice. Also it's going to be even easier to uchi Mata because your opponent is mostly limited to a single leg takedown (which is a gift from the heavens for judoka). This gripping is illegal in judo now because of how dominant it is lol.

yes. that's a modified uchimata. you can finish it standing up, or on mount, half guard. depends a bit on how you set it up, and how your opponent reacts.

I use a ton of judo in my Bjj arsenal but , I refuse to use any tecniques that land me in anyone's side control.At best, it becomes a scramble.

I'm pretty sure it's called momentum. Rolling through IS The technique. Judokas constantly land in bad positions bc the 1 goal is the ippon. Beautiful for judo scoring , not for bjj. This isn't always the case but, I believe it is in this particular technique. An object in motion stays in motion.

Side note: Im confident in bernardos ability to break fall. Don't know why y'all keep using the term " Nice". Again, I'm not shitting on judo. Some techniques just don't transfer over as well to bjj for obvious reasons.

@@brianscott4964 The issue is not the breakfall, it's the fact that you are landing on top of your opponent with his arm trapped. If you don't roll through, the opponent can not roll to alleviate the pressure. Bottom line, if you want to land on top and stay there, you can but your partner won't enjoy it.

He's actually being nice. There's highlight in Olympic judo matches that show this exact throw when not being nice. The opponents arm is isolated and caught in a bad position while the one executing the move ends up ontop in the dominant position holding the opponents arm in an uncomfortable position. Do some homework before you bash judo "giving" position. It's a friendly demonstration not meant to be taken seriously, that would cause discomfort and pain.

The thing you are missing is that you don't need to roll over. He is doing this to release the pressure and avoid landing on Bernardo, i.e., he's being nice. In BJJ however, you would go a bit more to the side and land on top of your opponent in side control with his arm trapped. Not a nice feeling for the guy on the bottom, but definitely effective.
