Would Luke be able to post with his left arm to prevent the roll? I realize that you have the loop choke, so that might make it uncomfortable to resist the roll.

Interesting I would not have thought to do arm in vs someone stronger than me. I'm always afraid of using this sub and gassing out if I don't catch it clean on the neck. Fair point that arm in means they can't use it to fight me but still

I am a white belt, I don't even want to get a stripe. I dodge in every promotion and I am the happiest white belt in the gym. Only problem is some blue belt doesn’t roll with me.

Trust the process! Only time I could see this having an actual impact is in the difference in competitions at Gi White & Blue and Nogi Beginner & Intermediate. You should be talking to your coaches about upcoming comps anyway though.

I have done this many times and I truly believe why it takes a Giancarlo to get the broader bjj world to get hip to ideas like this is they are way to nice when they roll.

Bernardo thanks for the answer. Where I train they definitely don't pass out belts and stripes without good cause. So I know I am probably ready but it feels like stepping onto the mat for the first time again. So much to learn.
@JiuJitsuCampSJC2 күн бұрын
If the instructor just want to make money beware! If you don't feel you are ready, that says a lot. Jiu-Jitsu has fewer belts than other arts, it's better to stay a little longer on the belt than to get a promotion that will feel like a burden. That's the reason why so many blue belts quit. Imho🔥🍍🥋
@bmstylee2 күн бұрын
This is my question from a little bit back. Where I train they don't pass out belts and stripes without being sure. I've been to other schools and can hold my own just fine. It's just it feels like starting again at square one with so much to learn. It's exciting and daunting all at the same time.
@af43962 күн бұрын
No it doesn't, many people don't feel ready for their next belt, it's one of the most common things. If you're not at a McDojo, just trust the instructor. After all, they're the one that's an expert is the art, not the f***ing white belt.
@JiuJitsuCampSJCКүн бұрын
@@af4396 if you as a white belt don't trust this instructor, beware. There are lots of charlatans out there. And if you are being promoted in less than a year and a half, beware.

the sad thing is i know too many kids that act like this, MIND YOU, they’re like 12-17. if anyone who think they tough, or a YN, you’re not. you’re most likely some little boy who thought this life was cool. it’s not, y’all have so much more potential than just running the streets, y’all could be a millionaire one day, but you wanna go in the streets and act tough. you think the streets are for you until something bad happens. just like how mike tyson says everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth, every has a plan until they get “popped with a switch”.

Bernardo, I remember you saying in a video "if you want to get better at bjj, you should compete". 5 months in was my first comp and 6 years later, I'm still competing. I love this process! Thank you for all you do, its been a huge honor to grow in the sport and help others. Oss!

I've been training Jiu-Jitsu for 25 years. I've been teaching for 14 years. I'd say the number is far more than 50% more like 80% and out of the 20% that stay 90% of those quit when they get blue belt. The reasons I've seen the most ppl stop training. 1. Its just not for them. Most ppl are lazy and as soon as they break a sweat or get their pinky jammed, they are done 2. They get a boyfriend or girlfriend 3. Its talking them too long to get rank and they get frustrated As for "life" getting in the way. You will do and make time for what you love. Period.

Not a bad number. I like to remind new white belts that the they will likely face a white belt that's about to get there blue belt and will get tuned up so to expect to get demolished at least once.
