Abe's single ippon was my favorite of the video. I havent always been the biggest fan of Abe but he really won me over this Olympics. I've always seen him as the talented genius vs the hardworking Maruyama and have rooted against him. But seeing him go up a weight class in the mixed event and hit Gaba with everything PLUS the kitchen sink, really solidified to me that Abe is a real warrior, not just a one trick pony. The fact that he has a second, third and fourth gear makes me appreciate his standard game all the more. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I also think that behind his pretty face and flashy exterior, Abe Hifumi is actually a very hard working judoka. Just like Maruyama, he has dedicated his life to judo and the olympics. I have also become a big fan of Abe Hifumi after the Paris olympics and have watched documentaries on his life story and his past judo matches. Great judoka and comes across as a nice polite guy with a cute personality.

To be honest, Istarted judo after the ban but I like how it played out. Sports are dictated by its rules and the meta changes but also with that comes a lot of opportunities for creativity which is the fun part of judo

"We wouldn't have to come up with these ways to grab the leg, but the higher ups probably like seeing innovation" or said in a different way "the higher ups don't like seeing neat game, they want to see people bend the rules to do what isn't allowed". Less sassy comment: I love morote seoi nage but it is painful being +180 cm and on top of that preferring standing seoi nage. It's like battling the windmills, you probably shouldn't but it's still in the back of the head. My instructor had a nasty exercise this fall: the moment one of the pair had two hands on gi, you'd stop and then practice from the grips you had at the time. So we had double sleeve and my partner had single sleeve and we had to practice creating movement and setting up a throw and then do a throw. Wasn't quite my skill level, but my partner was a brown belt and gave me loads of great tips. It was difficult but quite fun, he executed a single sleeve osoto gari on me a couple of times and it was just fascinating how he made it work. Enjoy the holidays, looking forward to more great judo on this channel. And your judowiki project seems cool. Hopefully we get some sort of divine intervention with tweaking the IJF rules still.

5.55 is ko Uchi gake/gaeshi not ko soto gake/gaeshi. Soto means from the outside, uchi from the inside. This is from the inside.

Personally, I believe the IJF didn’t follow exact suite of the kodokan in the rules change because they didn’t want to feel “bullied “ into adding leg grabs by all the judoka and judo fans. Even though they know the kodokan is “judo central”, they still want it to be known that they “run the judo world”; not to mention how much allegiance they have to the Olympics.
