This is among the top songs that I would play for someone, if I were introducing them to the fabulous Judy Garland. You feel it from the inside out. Happy 99th Birthday, Judy. Thank you for all the joy, tears, laughs and songs!

The hypnotic spell of that beautiful voice -- one that breaks your heart and lifts it up at the same time ...

“Hypnotic spell”--that’s exactly what it does; puts you in a hypnotic spell. Listen to it at the wrong time and you want to die; listen to it at the right time and you have a reason for living.

The magical Judy never ceases to amaze me... I once said... sorry for the personal things again... so I said once that time stopped on the 22th of June 1969. Yes it has... and never begun moving forward or even backward-if you wish- again... Judy's singing vocal was just an extention of her speaking abilities... believe me or not... She was basically and predominantly a singer and a stage performer. Her stage was the whole world, her LIFE... Everything... An Angel beyond recognition... I'll be back. Thank you KZbin for the Almighty Universe !

Judy Garland's voice we hear with the hint of a piano in the background.. No singer today can sing so effortless. Even Liza in her heyday cant come close to her mother Judy Garland. Her voice was God given. She gave millions pleasure during her life & 43 yrs after her passing, she gains a new generationsof fans. Sad, we'll never see a talent like Miss Garland again. Thank God for films & recordings! There's a reason why her dressing rm door @ CBS had 2 words "THE LEGEND" written on it

Isn’t that the truth? I absolutely feel, when I listen to Judy, that if I lived forever no one could ever improve on one single note or phrase or expression. You can’t improve on perfect.

This is the best actress to sing this Ira Gershwin’s song. Judy’s acting, singing is hard to match. 💕👍

Nice job by the young Judy. It includes the rarely-heard introductory verse, showing the Broadway stage show origins of the song. That verse lyric is a bit silly but contains some some nice melody and musical progression. Does anyone who know speaks in the introduction and provides the nice piano accompaniment?

She's knocking on a door, but not for me; She'll pull the Bustier from her lingerie drawer, but not for me. I quess that love's a game; I'm puzzled, just the same Was I a moth or flame? I'm all at sea It all began so well...but what an end! This is the time a fellow needs a friend. When ev'ry movie plot ends with a marriage knot And there's no knot for me.

Was she the female Sinatra? Or was Sinatra the male Judy Garland?
@elizabethdacosta56013 жыл бұрын
Neither, I’m afraid. With all due respect to the many people who love Sinatra, Judy stands alone. And always will. The BEST there ever was, male or female.

Always hate the stupid intro... it should start with the melody, not the banana oil. From that point on, though, utterly profound and poignant.
@doughertympd15 жыл бұрын
That intro is classic torch to the era. Bennet, Streisand, Sinatra, ...they all set the stage for a song with an intro, similar to tee-ing up a golf ball.
@MikkoLaulainen3 жыл бұрын
That's part of the melody, obviously you aren't gonna read this 8 years later but listen to chet bakers opening solo, same notes and all
