What a happy surprise to hear this tuneful and upbeat Jimmy Mchugh and Dorothy Fields gem. Thank you VERY much

Judy looks divine here. Healthy and in good spirits. I think despite the ups and downs of TJGS and the pressure she was under, CBS provided a safety blanket of sorts. During the show's run she had purpose, discipline and a routine that provided her with a structure. Without it I believe Judy was lost.

I recall reading, some years back, that this number was used to open Judy's premier (televised) show, after "Keep Your Sunny Side Up" was deemed "not positive enough." (This was not her first "filmed" show in the series, although it opened as the first Judy Garland Show). The latter song was shown in another episode (and in my view) topped, "I Feel a Song Coming On" by leaps and bounds. The lip-syncing was pretty clear here. I believe "Keep Your Sunny Side up" was a "live" recording.

Eh, with all due respect, the facts are a little different than you say. Judy taped Keep Your Sunnyside Up as the opener to the show with Mickey Rooney, the first episode shot, the one they originally thought was going to be the premiere episode. However, CBS then decided to use the Donald O'Connor episode for the premiere. Not sure where you are getting that Sunnyside up was deemed not positive enough, because it was re-filmed for the premiere episode, and was now presented with the decidedly less positive Call Me Irresponsible. Both songs can be seen here opening the premiere episode of the series: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2i0poybna-YoMksi=5x48GG2xjcRdOsmx They eventually reshot the opening for the Rooney hour with I Feel A Song Coming On.

@@BuzzStephens1 Well, thanks for the insight Buzz - as you know, so much has been written about the Garland Show over the years (rightly or wrongly) and I read about this (opening song change) somewhere along the way (which I described in my initial post). After 55 years since Judy's death, the line between fact and fiction has become nearly incomprehensible. Anyway, cheers and thanks for your wonderful channel and all you do.

@@rivaridge7211 If you want a factual account of Judy's TV series look for a copy of Rainbow's End By Coyne Steven Sanders.. It has a detailed account of everything connected to the show which numbers were cut or moved to another episode, which guests were dropped, which dancer wore the outfit Judy wore on an earlier show etc. Plus he interviewed everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, connected with the show.Well, except for Mel Torme, who had written his own book about the Garland show. Mort Lindsey pretty much sums up the difference between Rainbow's End book and the Torme book via this story that the late Steve Sanders shared with TJGE several years ago. "When I was still researching for the book, Mort (Lindsey) called me and said, "I just ran into Mel Torme. We ran into each other jogging on the beach in Malibu. He was in a huff and furious." He told Mort, "I just got a call from a guy named Steve Sanders...he says he's writing a book about the television series. I told him I had already written that book," to which Mort replied, "No, Mel, Steve's book is doing to be different -- he's going to tell the TRUTH!"
