I just realized that after listening to Judy forever that she has no vocal break going from low notes to a full high belt! Good grief! Such a fabulous tape, John. What an extraordinary time you had with her.🤗❣️

I was born in "68", so I never got to hear Judy live. I wish I could have!

Her versatility and musical timing is thrown in visiting difficultly paced songs with no real break. Amazing how her mind plots out musically each beat .

This was actually recorded in late October, 1968. Sorry for the discrepancy on the cover page.

This is a gem. I think John Meyer was good for Judy. He not only seemed to be fit emotionally and mentally, but capable of handling the logistics of the industry and not letting her be taken advantage of. I don’t know John, but I don’t think he would’ve just stood by and had her handle on her own, the promoter who called her a jerk singer (that one has stuck with me). Although short-lived, I’m glad she got to be with a man of his character and qualities, most particularly at that point in her life. Thanks for posting, it was great to hear her enjoying herself.

I have never believed that Harry M Miller called her a jerk singer. Mainly because as New Zealander, that expression wouldn’t have been in his vocabulary. Jerk isn’t a word used in Australia and New Zealand. In those extreme situations, a promoter will sway anything that will diffuse the drama, not make it worse.

@@da1maniac Maybe not, but he said something offensive enough that she hauled off and whacked him one.

John...fabulous recording! I don't think I've ever heard Judy rehearsing with only a pianist before. Her musical exploration with you was beautifully simple. And it's very evident that she loved the one-on-one collaborative process. Happily, she's in wonderful voice. It's so hard to believe this was only seven or eight months before she died. Bless you for recording this. Sammy

Judy sounds amazing at this time in her life. I think this was the only time she did such an intimate show, of I'm guessing around 250 people & received 100 dollars. Were there tickets sold too? I'm sure Buzz will know.

God I wish she did an official studio version of The Joker. It would have been so good. Was her actual appearance at club THREE recorded?

Great recording. Just wish Mr. Meyer was just a little less on the piano. Seemed like his was playing for a symphony with all the flourishes and runs, instead of just playing the melody for her to rehearse to. It was like he was trying to impress with his playing. But, that's just me. Great to hear Judy in any format.

I agree about Meyer’s piano-playing here; very honky-tonk and almost drowning out Judy’s voice.
