I'm always chasing rainbows, Watching clouds drifting by, My schemes are just like all my dreams, Ending in the sky, Some fellas look and find the sunshine, I always look and find the rain, Some fellas make a winning sometime, I never even make a gain, Believe me I'm always chasing rainbows, Waiting to find a little bluebird, In vain.

Judy Garland just always blows me away. They don't make superstars like her anymore. She sung like an angel. I love these old clips of her singing. She completely rules.

When you think about it, it was perfect casting. Judy was always insecure about her looks (in real life as well)- especially when bookended by sultry Lana Turner and exotic siren Hedy Lamarr. She was girl-next-door pretty, but didn't have their glamor or sex appeal, but when she sang (and opened those eyes), you fell in love with her. They were a perfect trio.

yes, the way they all perk up when she starts, you know you dont need to be directed to do that. she said it was the only way she felt good about herself having to share the screen with Lana Turner, and Hedy Freakin Lamarr. they were gorgeous, but when she sang there was nothing else but her

The setup leading to this number is one of the best moments of the film: Judy and Lana are already Ziegfeld girls, but only in the chorus. Judy is auditioning for a 'specialty,' but her vaudeville-trained dad (at the piano) had previously taught her the number in an inappropriate, overly upbeat fashion. She's almost dismissed from the audition, but it is Lana who asks the orchestra to back her up- and Judy starts the number over again, as a ballad- ala Judy Garland. A beautiful sequence.

the second best song she sang about a rainbow. It's a really close call.

I just watched Judy singing Zing went the strings... and her beauty just blossomed. I can't imagine the stress the studio gave her (to lose weight and be less childlike). How dare Judy compare herself to Lana Turner (whose beauty she said she always wanted)when she is ten times better, plus a big voice. We love you Judy.
@theblueangel2816 жыл бұрын
one thing i love about Lana Turner, shes unbelievable hot, a true Blonde Bombshell, but never a clamoring Diva trying to vanquish every woman in sight. she let her beauty exist, but didnt lord it over everyone unless the script specifically called for it, nor her presence. very gracious. Hedy Lamarr on the other hand was so beautiful, and people reacted so strongly to it, she was never able to forget about it, and neither was anyone else.
