The first time I ever got the chance to hear these tapes was Howard Stern making a mockery of her for the things that she had to say. It truly disgusted me, and continues to sadden me for Judy. She is my favorite vocalist and actress. More than that, Judy was a real person. Her words hearken the heartstrings. Anyone who can mock someone in pain is a monster.

@Mernerwastaken he should have retired several years ago. He's also put out myths that he's such a great interviewer. He's the worst. Check out the Robert plant interview or Gregg Allman. Plant just gave it to him brutally " u ask a lot of stupid questions " plant had to ask him several times to play his new stiff he was promoting. Instead stern wouldn't stop talking about zeplin which was over for decades. He even surmised " Jimmy page was the one of your life right?" Plant just laughed. Then stern spent the whole 2 hrs playing back for plant every zeplin song. Like what is the point of that. He knows the songs he wrote them. It's the same thing to w/ anyone was on snl. Questions about Chris Farley. Paul McCartney has been in multiple times & it's the same exact interview everytime " did u think John Lennon was gay " " wasn't Lennon the love of your life " ( same question as I mentioned above to plant) or he just repeats back what the guest said. An example " so your saying u didn't want to tour again " he does it after every response. He also cuts the guests off repeatedly. I know other so called interviews do this but why have the person in of you won't let them talk? All hos questions are protection too. Like father hunger is one. As for mocking garland , who had more talent in her pinky then he has he loved to degrade & humiliate esp when he had those girls come in & je & his BFF Ralph would use a laser pointed to look for every single flaw. Funny since he is a very unattractive man. As is Ralph his " stylist " anyway later when talking about this bit he said " it's a about degradation " so he's a misogynist & I nearly choked when sunny in the view Said " I remember listening to you & you said the n word so many times" he lied of course said that word never came out of his mouth & ku klux Klan guy they had on for years said the n word not him ! The internet is not his friend when u can find him saying the n word all the time. In fact he asked whoopie for back up which she did saying " no Robin wouldn't let him get away w/ that " yes she did but also that's one big reason he had Robin there so he got a free pass on his bigotry & misogyny. Anyway on his channel 9 show he was in black face making fun of whoopee when she was w/ Ted Danson. In that skit Howard says the n word dozens if times. I never got how he escaped all he said when its all recorded. How many celebs got cancelled for past things they said in recent years.

If she loved her kids so much, why didn’t she get sober? She was a scary drunk she died of a drug overdose and she could care less about the amount of pills she was taking as a matter of fact Sid her husband or ex-husband of five cause she was married five times wasn’t she he had to hire a private detective to check around the house every day while the kids were in her care to make sure she wasn’t popping pills and drinking alcohol but she did it anyway because she had pills and booze hidden all over the house as far as the private detective. It’s all on transcripts all in black-and-white it’s all legal like because it’s true. Maybe she’ll get it right her next life around. Make she rest in peace. She could care less about the pain that she caused her children especially Liza the only thing Judy Garland taught Liza was how to act and sing and perform on stage which was, many children would die to have been taught by Judy Garland on stage. It was too late by then she was far far gone.

Tash Speak Interesting. I always thought her voice was lower because her singing voice was lower. I thought it was raised when she spoke to cultivate a certain image, but maybe I’m wrong. Her tone here sounds similar to the tone she used on Jack Paar.
@tashspeak38774 жыл бұрын
@@lindseysanders3656 it's definitely played too slow and too low - i think whoever digitised them either didn't realise, didn't have the facilities they needed to correct it or didn't know how. I just played this back with jack paar at the same time and this is several tones lower for sure. I did a little reading up and compact cassette recorders were brand new1963 and the recording strips were narrower and recorded slower so audio fidelity wasn't so good which would explain why all these tapes sound off. They also vary - in the autobiography tapes she made in the 50s - it starts off normal, then gradually gets lower then goes normal again. I think personal portable recording devices back then just weren't that reliable/consistent :)
@lindseysanders36564 жыл бұрын
Tash Speak This one is also different than the counseling session audio on KZbin. She was younger in that though. I will say that she spoke in a different tone and vocal inflection from her normal voice for her entire career. That would be a lot to keep up with. Shows how much talent she had. I wouldn’t want to pretend I’m someone I’m not though.

@@lindseysanders3656 not sure which one you mean by the counselling session? - I don't think i've heard it - if it's the one where she talks about her suicide attempt or being dumped on a pile of cherries as a baby by her sisters that was a recording by the guy who was going to write her autobiography which never got finished :) And yeah me neither it's hard /confusing enough being one person! but I guess having a public persona helps to keep a divide between work and life...I don't know how people manage to do it quite honestly.

This tape had to have been done in 1965, because the "man" she's referring to is Marc Herron, the "man" she married that same year. The marriage lasted less than a year. She returned to singing (as well as ever sometimes), and even did a tour and played the Palace in 1967, from which a recording was made. It included "What Now, My Love". I saw her in Chicago in 1967 and she was outstanding. Then she married Mickey Deans in early 1969, and died in June of that year. And yes, she was a wonderful mom and her kids loved her.

This was the product of greed during the the time of the fantasy movie factory . They pumped out and used talent for the name of the studio and its owners at interest. She , like others, were used and milked for every ounce of life they could get from her. Sadly, her mother was a jerk and she loved her Father during her uprising. The studio would not let her cancel her radio show when they knew her father was about to die and she was not afforded to go to him to see him... She was born with talent and it's a blessing that we have some good footage of that talent, but it was all at her true expense ... I wish I was around to have seen her in concert ... She is missed.

It's very rare that I comment on such precious things, but to all those that find themselves perusing the comments and changing the playback speed to1.5x, try the 1.25x setting instead. Although the 1.5x was certainly better than the original speed, when I tried 1.25x, the whole listening experience was transformed. I recognized "Judy" more so than any of the other times I've listened, and I got that feeling that only she can give...the same one I get every time I watch her perform "By Myself" and receive that hard-earned and so-deserved standing ovation on her show...or as it is more popularly known, "The Judy Garland Experience." ;) The result was that I think I may have truly heard this for the first time rather than the dialogue going in my head when listening at the original speed. At 1.5x, it certainly sounds closer to what I thought I'd hear, but 1.25x was arresting for me. It made me hear what I believe she, speaking as an author, was trying to convey rather than the constant stream of questions and commentary that came with the original speed or the comparisons that came with the 1.5x setting. It shut me up and sat me down like I was hearing it for the first time. It was as if she did the "head thing" and started to speak the utter truth when I changed it to 1.25x. Give it a whirl. I'm not saying anyone is wrong about the 1.5 or that I'm right with 1.25....hardly the point, and I couldn't care less about that part. I'm just saying...try it. You can always change it back. I never really thought about the profound difference such a thing could make, and it's made me question every single recorded thing I've ever heard. And since my singular-point comment has turned into an essay, one more thing - a big thank you to all my fellow Judy-lovin' folk that have done their part to preserve and share such gems as this. When she's on the screen, the rest of the world's playing field is leveled, and almost all other alleged greatness is eclipsed. There is unity in being a true fan, and I tip my proverbial hat to all that keep that practice alive.

I advise anyone listening to this to alter the speed (in KZbin settings) to 1.5x speed. The original recording was made using a reel to reel tape machine. The playback speed as uploaded here distorts Garland’s voice. Her voice (both spoken and singing) did deepen as she got older but it did not get to this sort of pitch. There are many interviews she gave, and chat show appearances that illustrate this. In changing the speed as I suggest, it then becomes apparent to those who are familiar with Garland’s manner of speech; its cadence, phrasing and inflection. Listening to her at what I believe is at the correct speed brings an even greater poignancy to her words.

This IS Judy Garland. Her voice is deepened because of the drinking, the drugs, and the emotional abuse she's endeared. If you listen closely, when she says "I'm damn mad." You can almost hear Dorothy coming out. That young Judy is begging for help and it's sad NO ONE helped her.
@allengumm11578 жыл бұрын
I love her, but she's wallowing in self-pity a bit. Most of the things that were written about her were hardly "loathsome." She's very paranoid here. But then, she wasn't expecting people to hear these tapes.

Allen Gumm no, things were written about her, that she was temperamental, if it were a man, like Sinatra, it is over looked and life goes on, but a woman, she is labeled a bitch and her career suffers for it. If she was heavy, they called her fat, if she was sick, she was drunk

No one helped her?? She was so needy she literally exhausted people around her, and they eventually burned out. Meanwhile, she was raiding their medicine cabinets for pills.

Like many artists she has gone through a severe world of industry and usually people that surround those artists are definetely ruthless abusers. Artists like her ...talented artists are being handled by mean people for money and fame.

Folks live and you die but rarely do they leave behind a legacy such as Judy Garland's. There is no doubt as to her humanity and this recording confirms that. She was the realest entertainer of all!!!

I do NOT blame Judy at all! The beauty is one thing she said, " They would not get her. " It doesn't matter how she died. It doesn't matter how terrible they were to her, they didn't kill her per se! I'm glad she took her own life. My God some of us are tired, dammit! Love you lady! #TeamJudy

wow, really sad. I love her so much, if only she could have internalised the massive amount of love her fans had for her, but maybe that wasn't enough, she needed to find her own peace, she never founf a way of dealing with the morons who hurt her with vicious words, people who never even knew her..all they had to do was listen to her life, it's in her music, and had they listened to her music maybe they wouldn't have been so cruel? I don't know, but I'm sorry for her pain, it wasn't fair, she was one in a million. Lots of imitations but there's only one Judy.

The very sad thing about this recording is that Judy was right about it all. Even today, People only hear & dwell on the negatives instead of all the positives of this great Legend's Life. Even Lorna produced a bio pic of her own mother that used Judy's life as a Platform to thrust Her (Lorna's) own "Poor Me" story. Even her narration in her TV bio She always it about Her & not Judy. Someone to be fair & balanced & tell this great Legend's story. John Fricke is that Man. He's always been fair!

Actually, she's a lot less slurry than she was quite a bit of the time in her later years. See her appearance on the Dick Cavett show in 1968 to really get a look at her when she was really struggling.

What a great talent and human being. Her fault. if any, is has the medical condition of addiction certainly caused by Her mother and the studios. She had no chance given the times to seek true help. People did use Her and she had every right to feel angry. She was a huge talent and that can never change. What a sweet soul.
