This interview is a fan favorite.
Judy was in great shape, relaxed and very funny. We can also see what a great storyteller she was when she talks about growing up in vaudeville, her days at MGM and her live concerts.
She sings "Little Drops of Rain", "Paris Is a Lonely Town" and "Mewsette", from Gay Puree.
Part 1 of 4.
Enjoy!

Jack and Judy are snapping jai-lai balls at one other here. Both performers at the top of their game. Two things about Garland that "maintain" - she was the funniest person that ever lived, and she was an extremely good mother that loved her kids.

Beautiful! Judy Garland the battle she fought We all got to watch how heartbreaking at a young age sacrifices, hardships, loneliness and not feeling good enough. I can imagine. Her iconic song will always resonate the beauty of every color of the rainbow that she gave us. Happy mother's Day! Judy

Interesting how each generation has their loves, and then time moves on, following generations being barely aware of their existence. We get so caught up in the moment forgetting how brief and transient life is. For all that success, she lived a very short, tragic, sad life. 47, so brief and gone.

Judy had a great sense of humor ! I love to hear her laugh and tell her stories! She was not the tragic figure they made her out to be ! She made me laugh ! People who lied told lies I hope they have burnedin hell for all the nasty untrue lies they told about her !

Ah the good ole days when talk shows were really exciting because people were still very exciting to interview. And Judy was one of very best talents alive. I'm only sorry Jack didn't have Judy on one nite with Oscar Levant. Now there would have been a show for the ages...

This is from the first season when Jack appeared on Friday nights at 10pm(et) with a "prime-time" version of his former late-night series; the only difference was, he and his guests sat in swivel chairs facing each other [floor mikes in front of them], rather than the traditional "desk and sofa". Some people believe this segment was seen on "THE TONIGHT SHOW" (or, as it was known during his era, "THE JACK PAAR SHOW"). Nope, this was seen in "prime-time"....

If you guys can find a clip of Elaine Stritch telling a funny story about a late night out drinking with Judy Garland, it's very funny. She told that story at her one-woman show called "At Liberty".

@plp1964 . I agree about finding more JUDY interviews they used to have the entire 1967 interview with Judy and Jack Paar but youtube took it off and only 5 minutes of audio is available. Judy was on the dec 17th 1968 Tonight show and there is the two songs she sang but no interview footage and she was a guest and guest-host for merv griffin which just has silent footage. I know she was on Gypsy Rose Lee's talk show in the mid 60's. Also,When youtube's sound goes down I log off and log on again.

Xander, Judy WAS the one Mayer was going to fire, but, got talked out of it by Ida Koverman, Roger Edens, and Arthur Freed. So Universal signed Deanna immediately, and she became an instant star in her first film 3 Smart girls ( dumb movie ), and it ticked Mayer off so bad he sought revenge. He was determend to prove he made the correct decision on which girl to keep, and Judy paid the price. He over worked her, and the harder he worked her the more pills he fed her, and Judy became a huge star, with a huge dependency that would unfortunately lead to her early death.

For God sakes stop already. You idiots are always looking for a reason to say something critical about Judy. People like you are always looking for something you can criticize her for. If you are one of those, obviously you are not a fan of hers. I guarantee you that she was stone cold sober. Just in case you didn't know, Judy is considered to be one of the funniest, if not the funniest person in all of show business. Lucille Ball received a compliment one day from a man who said to Lucy that you are the funniest women in show business. Lucy replied, i'm not funny, my writers are funny. She said now Judy Garland, she's the funny person I know.

Judy's fibbing. She and Deanna used to talk on the phone when they were in their 30s. They got along. But the part about Deanna getting fired? She left out that Mr. Mayer said to his secretary, "Fire the fat one", meaning Judy. But the secretary thought he meant Deanna, so they dropped her instead. It was the best mistaken decision he ever made. Judy made him millions.
