Have been searching for a version of Judy singing 'The Man I Love' for a long time ... & I finally found it. My heart melted when I heard it & I think yours will,too.
Not only is this recording exceptionally rare - I'm sure that many have never heard Judy sing this beautiful ballad - but the quality of the audio has surprisingly, wonderfully survived the passing years.
How rare? ... I know Judy performed 'The Man I Love' a few times live, in concert. But ... in all my searching I have never found a studio recording. I'm sure there are many people more knowledgeable than I who can correct my error if it is needed.
This, too, is a live recording. The information is a bit sketchy ... possibly from an August 28, 1943 radio command performance ... or, another date - March 5, 1944, venue unknown.
The visual experience I added to this audio is a collection of clips & photos of Judy with her husbands. I know there are alot of opinions about each of them ... I just accept the experience Judy had loving them at some place & time in her life.
'The Man I Love' is a popular standard, with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by his brother Ira.
Some day he'll come along,
The man I love;
And he'll be big and strong,
The man I love;
And when he comes my way,
I'll do my best to make him stay.
He'll look at me and smile--
I'll understand;
And in a little while
He'll take my hand;
And though it seems absurd,
I know we both won't say a word.
Maybe I shall meet him Sunday,
Maybe Monday -- maybe not;
Still I'm sure to meet him one day--
Maybe Tuesday
Will be my good news day.
He'll build a little home
Just meant for two;
From which I'll never roam--
Who would? Would you?
And so all else above,
I'm waiting for
The man I love!
