They are more confused like when you meet a stranger for the first time and try to be polite given their physical vulnerability. It's not him having a laugh. It's him being very confused and scared at the same time. In his mind he doesn't know these people and concluded they some how are taking advantage of him.

@@Kenpachi4207 I am not sure y’all are reading that right . I didn’t take it that way . I was a CNA. If a person has the ability much less desire to do this kind of work it’s so greatly needed . But , also , it gets very ugly and it’s difficult . You shouldn’t think your loved one will be smooth like this . You should be prepared for all of it , for your sake and theirs because you have no idea what you’re going to get . Plus there are different forms of dementia and they come with things like sundowning . My grandma thought in fact was convinced that we had somehow picked up the house and turned it the other direction . So she was disoriented every night almost . And she started escaping . She threw away every single bath towel in the house which composed of the towels of 2 full households . A lot of towels . She threw things of value away . She was lost more than once in fact one time luckily a man that knew her from the little town we lived in found her in the city the nursing home was in and called my mom . This is a blessing for this family and us for getting to share it .
