Juice Tried To Warn You
Set in the early 90s, Juice portrays the struggles of the black communities in America and an unfortunate era where they were grappling with a range of issues, from poverty to racism to police brutality and gang violence.
But there’s more to be discovered when analyzing the movie Juice more closely. We can see that Juice tried to warn us about many prevalent problems in the world, with a focus on the black community.
However, these problems highlighted in the movie are not exclusive to the 90s but still recur and exist in the black community today.
First, Juice warned about the dangers of peer pressure and toxic masculinity. Next, it cautions against the glorification of violence and gangs and the impact of police brutality and systemic racism on black communities. Additionally, the film highlights the intoxicative nature of power and its consequences.

Bishop’s Father was in the movie for maybe 60 seconds but I think he was the most important figure for why everything transpired, From being antagonized by Radames about his Dad being tossed in Jail to his constant need to prove himself as a man really crushed his innocence. He wanted to have that extra money to have her back in his corner. Yes these are my thoughts & lessons I want to share. Back then, NYC didn't have "gang's" as we know them today. In fact we laughed at them when the movie Colors came out. We had what's called crew's. Nothing particularly that organized. It was a lot worse back then bc we had anywhere from twice to four times more the murders than today. The murders had a lot to do with Crack & Robberies & not, "gang violence." But as the gang's started to form in NYC, starting with the Latin Kings, then the Bloods, then the Crips it in fact made the streets safer in a way bc the average person wasn't being robbed anymore & gangs attacked one a other inadvertently making it safer bc the crime changed. Bishop was nothing more than a stick up kid like so many NYers back then. Not "gang bangers." In fact we called them "Hard Rocks," in NYC. Not, "Thugs" or "Gangstas" or whatever the mainstream media calls them now. We had our own unique terms & if you listen to the 80s rap which was 99% out of NYC, you'll hear all the NYC lingo I'm mentioning & a lot of what was going on back then. Nas's Illmatic album is the last true NY rap album coming from that NYC street Era. The only term he used that wasn't an NYC term was, "Thug." As Nas was now transitioning into the more popular rap Jargon that Pac made so popular. Other than that. Illmatic is a straight up NYC lingo based album that I have to translate for people that aren't from NYC from that time & simply can't understand what he's saying. A quick example: he referred to suckas or punks as a "Crab." In LA that's a dis to Crips by Bloods. I've even noticed that when Nas performs the Illmatic album on stage, he leaves the old NYC term, "Crabs" out as to not offend anyone. He also uses the term, "Herb." Which is another dis term for Sucka or punk. No one even uses it anymore in NYC. In fact, NYC accents are almost gone bc NYC streets have adopted all the Sourthern & Cali terms & accents. Even 50 raps a lot like Pac. I even hear Maino sounding like he's more Cali than anything when he says, "Talk or Walk." I find it, bazaar that NY has adopted other parts of the countries ways. I lived in LA from 91-97 & I still have my beautiful Brooklyn accent. Anyway, just a little history lesson for you based on things you mentioned in your break down of the movie Juice. Saludos from Ethiopia, the cradle of civilization!

Toxic masculinity means the toxic bastardized version of masculinity ie not true masculinity but performative for the approval of others. Just like there is toxic femininity. Toxic masculinity is about getting as many women you can get but not true respecting them, about who has more status or money and being "the Man" basically masculinity preformed out of insecurity where as real masculinity is being a taking care of ones business and oneself, establishing your self knowing that no matter if if you are in it by yourself that you got . Because you are secure in who you are

I remember I used to love the hell out of this movie back before I even spoke fluent English like late 92 when I was 7 and I can't even explain how much o love this movie and how many different layers I discovered from being 7 barely understand what was going on to around 11 when I had a much better grasp but still not close to the full picture to my teens around 15 onto my adulthood and watching it when I was locked up and damn I can't believe before today(4/19/2024) I hadn't seen the whole movie since like 2012 and no B's I'm still learning from this classic and I get even sadder seeing these guys having such an amazing times just chilling and skipping school, these guys all did suck an amazing job they truly feel like they were best boys from birth and it being shot on location in Harlem gives it an edge and authenticity that can't be faked , I remember when I was 8 I used to go to Harlem with my big brother looking for all they spots, we stayed across the river in the Bronx but it wasn't far at all, Ernest Dickerson really did an amazing job of capturing Harlem in a way few have ever even gotten close to, it's one of those rare movies where the city is a character itself but then u got Radames and his crew(including Treach who I found out later was gunning for the role of Bishop, until he heard Pac that is) I know I'm far from the only one that gets chills watching PAC in Particular, from the first scene with him in his Boxers No Tats or Nothin and thinking about all he achieved and the legend he became in less than the next 5 years, it really is a trip seeing PAC and also remembering PAC spent over half his life in NYC but then we got Omar Epps, Jermaine Hopkins and Khalil Kain who in 5-10 min all do such an amazing job as friends it's like watching a documentary or something and that type of Camaraderie is something I've only seen in very few movies and shows, Four Brothers is another good example of it, these guys make it so believable I feel like it actually happened and seeing them so happy at the beginning only for it to fall to pieces and when Bishop fell to his death Ernest including that last shot of them during happier days makes sure we dont forget how much things have fell to pieces...the co stars and cameos are also dope, Sam Jackson looked older in 92 then he did in 2012 and I love listening to his chats with customers on the side I remember not having a clue of what he was talking about until I got into my teens I was like Oh Yeah that's what I'm thinking about too...oh man and then of course the music is so amazing and the DJ scenes too that I've recommended this classic several times to friends trying to get into Hip Hop, the soundtrack is an absolute classic too..I really got no complaints with this classic except maybe I wish it was like 10-15 min longer but really that's cuz I love watching these guys have fun..makes me mad too cuz those days are long gone for me and probably never coming back, man so many classic scenes but the one that had me laughing most during this watch is at 21:50 into the movie where Q goes for some cigarettes only to find Blizzard(dope ass name btw) who just got paroled as he says "the other day" only to real politely say "Pardon Me For A Second I'm About To Rob this Place" too bad Blizz didn't make it seeing a as Erick & Parrish was 2 of those he was robbing... seeing how much PAC wanted to go in and get a piece confused me as a kid, and then I grew up and realized Respect and Fear are two powerful drugs...what more needs to be said? a classic plain and simple and the 90s was and always will be the greatest decade ever for countless things but being a kid in the 90s was my kind of a heaven, even as a pretty damn poor kid most of the 90s it still was ridiculously amazing and always will be

As the protagonist Tupac is Ques alter ego.If you notice the Director uses Tupac.which is a Gemeni. To mean spirit twin or Dopple ganger. Thats why you see him pop up out of nowhere at the school. To confront Que. And Disappear into darkness at the end.As it represents Ques other side dying.Or slipping into darkness. Because Que had slipped into darkness. It always shows through the movie Bishop being a step ahead of Que. Thats because their one in the same.Like when he catches Que from behind and points a gun at him. Thats to show they are the same.steel is innocence. Raheem is hope. Hope and innocence are being provoked by his dopple ganger bishop. Aka ego. Ques hope gets killed which threatens his innocence. Thats why Samuel L the actor in the movie looks at Que crazy because hes not sure of who he really is? And his Dopple ganger bishop got everyone believing he is the real killer. In reality Que never kills anyone perse just messes with the idea in his head.In reality The movie shows what it looks like to have an inflated ego that runs every thing. And how out of control the mind can get. The views has to ultimately pickout when its Que and when its his ego.

@@gammalord9986 Another movie where the protagonist plays the dopple ganger is in menace 2 society. The 2 stands for spirit double. Odog is the protagonist to Kane. If you watch how people ignore O Dog through the movie thats because O Dog doesn't really exist. Like at the Grandfathers house. ODog says something to the Kanes Grandfather but he acts like ODog doesn't exist. Thats because he is the other side to Kane. Not to say ODog gets ignored completely just at pivotal times. Anytime Kane needs to get help he goes to Odog as if hes becoming Odog.Such as when you see Odog hands Kane the gun to beat up chauncey. Its a way as to say he needs to become Odog in order to have the confidence and courage to make people fear Kane. Such as at the crime scene to the killing of store clerk only Kanes finger prints are noticed at the store. Thats because Kane plays the background at that time with drinking beer to become odog to kill store clerk. The film just shows O dog as an outward expression to kane but he really is Odog. Thats why no one really gets arrested because they can't figure out who the real killer is because Kane is able to come to the forefront to be Kane again when its time for question and answering. The only difference with this movie and Juice is Kane becomes crippled by his dark side.At the end it shows hope and innocence all die with him. Stacey is innocence because he is childhood friend to Kane while Shariff represents hope because he is always being optimistic urging Kane to do better and be better. Whats funny is Tupac was supposed to play Shariff but the part was too marginal for him and the hughes brothers went another direction

The literary term is called a "foil". And if you have a doppleganger that means there are still two separate individuals. If it's his ego then it's a split personality.

Only thing I disagree on is The way their click or crew is being referred to as a gang repeatedly.. These are the group of boys growing up that always avoided being a part of a "GANG".. It is important to separate gangs and clicks because they are two very different things in black culture so That should definitely be recognized.. That being said I can appreciate the way everything was broken down outside of that 🎯😇

This narrator spoke in his conclusion was so accurate and it exists til this day, power behind a gun, robberies, and youth's being involved in gangs or crews in inner city america neighborhoods in all 24 u.s. major cities. We have to teach our children that violence doesn't solve anything it just makes matters worse. The youth needs to get educated especially in inner city neighborhoods.

Despite the fact that the trial is simply short and that, it is a deep film that addresses many issues, the obsession with the use of weapons, how bad Bishop and his father were, there are things that you have to realize when drawing up theories, of course , you also have to be careful who you hang out with, I know people who have had similar stories, good video juice is one of my favorites greetings from 🇦🇷.

When I first started at a new job a few years ago, I had a conversation about movies with some black teenagers (boys and girls), and I was shocked to find that they hadn't seen "Juice", "Boyz N the Hood", "South Central", "New Jack City", or "Menace II Society"; they hadn't even heard of "The Last Dragon"! I was all, "I made sure to watch them with my kids. How did your parents *not* show you the Hood Classics that we grew up with?" Lupe Fiasco actually has a line in a rap that says, "Died, like Ricky on his momma's couch!" and apparently there are listeners who have no idea what that's referring to!

This was a great analysis. I actually appreciate the movie now. When I first saw the movie, I thought Bishop's dad was just mentally ill (I didn't know about the prison experience). I assumed that Bishop was mentally ill because it was passed down from his father. That's why I initially believed Bishop went crazy and started shooting everyone.

They edited the real ending to JUICE. The original ending is here on youtube. Type in "JUICE alternate ending" which is the original ending. Due to Bishop knowing what happened to his father in prison. He refused to climb back on the roof just to be apprehended and charged for 3 murders and an attempted murder charge. Bishop knowing he could be raped as his father was in prison, he chose to let go of Q's hand and accept his fate (death) as the character did in the movie they watched at Raheem's house. That is why there were so many cuts in the scene while Bishop was hanging off of the roof. That way you could not see it was just a bunch in added voice clips. Even the screams from bishop was a voice clip. If you pause the original ending you will see bishop's mouth was closed with a cold stare in his eyes as he chose death over punishment.
