I think it's worth mentioning that Ernest Dickerson had to reshoot the ending due to studio input. It's on KZbin if you look it up, where Bishop is hanging from the building and tells Q he can't go to jail when he hears the sirens, so he let's himself lose from Q and dies. The point was he'd rather commit suicide than go to jail and end up like his father.

When Raheem handed Bishop that gun, you could see Bishop hold that gun with such power like Thor's hammer was handed to him. Bishop love the feeling of power which it gave him with the gun. He loved how scared Steel looked when he aimed the gun at him. Once he tried to use the same method on Q, which he asked Q "Are you ready to die? Q showing no fear but pure courage says Yeah. Just at that moment, You see the look on Bishop face show signs of disabelief and confusion that Q faced his fear tatic dead on with a gun aimed directly in his face. Near the end when he gets disarmed from Q and drops the gun. You see his power is taken. Now he goes from pursuing Q to running away from him. As the rooftop battle ensues. You notice Bishop always goes for a weapon while facing off with Q. While Q who usess just his fist and who is also wounded by a bullet wound to his arm. First Bishop wields a 2 x 2 wood plank as a weapon to attack Q, then once that was lost. He grabs an iron pipe to defeat Q. Which he also loses after being disarmed again. You can tell Bishop was not a fighter and only was powerful with a weapon.

A person's environment can make or break them and this film showed just how real it is for this type of stuff happens in real life and Bishop's death is also symbolic like he falls into the abyss of darkness consuming his soul in the end.
@TheWanderer1000000 Жыл бұрын
This has to be the best portrayal of a villain ever. In all of movie history and I mean it. You could never beat this movie in sympathizing with the villain and wanting him to survive. Even hoping that Bishop would stop the madness and his lust for revenge that everyone feels at least once in their life. I believe Revenge is the D.N.A. of humanity. Everyone that has ever been wronged this badly, may become like Bishop. It's up to you to stop. Only you can stop. Even though in my opinion, he was completely justified for killing that gangster.
@BigHenFor Жыл бұрын
Revenge is not the sum of humanity. Revenge is not the sum of being human. Revenge is the distortion of the human drive to relate oneself to others, as the response to rejection from others. It's the dysfunctional response to not being seen as legitimate and ones self worth being tied to that. So, Revenge is a choice to agree that you are not legitimate, and won't be legitimate unless you act as those who reject you. Revenge is the choice not to choose your own agenda, not to recognise your own worth, on your own terms, but to buy into another's distorted vision of reality. To accept victimhood, but then to create more victims. Humans have the capacity for good or for evil, but we live in ways that deny how we co-create our reality. We barely live consciously. We follow when we should lead, and lead when we should follow. By not questioning ourselves and the world, we can't see straight. Question more.

Would love to see a video covering Vergil from Devil May Cry. While he isn't the most sadistic or evil villain out there, the way he pursues power at the cost of both his own humanity and the well-being of others, is fascinating. As well as how his ideology is challenged by both Dante and Nero, both of whom embraced the humanity Vergil rejected for so long.

I think the fact Tupac was so naturally charismatic and likeable makes him sooo much scarier when he turns against the rest of the crew. Like he managed to gain everyones trust effortlessly, to the point its actually unbelievable that he would go against them and now you can never know when he will turn against you.

I had never heard anyone use the term Juice before this movie, but I believe they named it Juice, because that's what the entirety of Bishops adolescent mind focuses on.....He really wants to be Raheem / Q two guys who are extremely popular and lucky with the ladies. Instead he begins the movie stranded on the bottom of the totem poll barely above Steel. He knows it & uses a weapon as the ultimate equalizer.

That's a great point. Only watched some clips of the movie recently but thought about how Raheem/Q/Steel (maybe) have relationships with women and stand out on their own. Raheem has respect from the neighborhood, Q is a DJ, and Steel is the jokester who cooks with liquor. Bishop seemed like he was lacking something so he chose violence to stand out.
@myronsanders4563 Жыл бұрын
1 scene you see the pecking order of the crew as they're walking in Manhattan together: Raheem and Q are in the front. Bishop and Steele in the back. Raheem is an Alpha and the unquestioned leader of the pack, Q is popular as the Local DJ/Mixtape extraordinare and is smashing a grown Woman who's a Nurse. Steele is the youngest and the fat kid they Crack jokes on, but at least he provides the crew relief w/ Food and shelter from his parents apartment when they are cutting school. Bishop is rendered useless of the 4. The opening scene w/ him nearly getting jumped by Rademes and his crew, and his mental state makes him moreso a burden then anything. He's a loose cannon and a overgrown child that needs to be watched over. He has no purpose in that crew and needs to stand out. That changes in his mind 1nce he holds that gun

Excellent analysis on Bishop. I agree with an earlier comment here, Idi Amin from "Last King of Scotland" would make up a real thoughtful analysis, and a less violent but equally fascinating analysis would be on the subtly evil and manipulative Duke Brothers in "Trading Places" (which celebrated its 40th Anniversary this year).

Great acting from Tupac did in this flim. As scary as Bishop is and how intense Bishop is. Tupac gave Bishop a depth of humanity something to feel pitty for in the character. In a werid way Bishop is almost Shakespearian in his brutality and his tragedy.
