I'd take a remaster just for them being updated for modern systems. Both games on PC at least have some trouble getting to work with modern systems and hardware, have to use a bunch of fan fixes and roll the dice. Not sure if its any easier on consoles because not sure what support there is for older system games on current consoles. A remake is certainly better but a remaster might be appreciated too.

I couldn't care less, to be honest. With Bethesda's track record, I'm 10x more excited for the fan made project that is being done with a load of dedication and passion, than any potential licensed out port job. The GTA definitive edition really opened my eyes to how bad these things can be. Maybe if/when it comes out and turns out to be any good, I'll take a look at it again. But, as it stands, all I can really envision is a spotty job with typical Bethesda bugs, but now with integrated Creations support. If they decide to cease and desist that fan project, well, that's really it for me and Bethesda.

If this remake screws with Skyblivion, then that is the final nail in the coffin for me as a Bethesda fan. First, we got the game no one asked for (Starfield ), showed how much they didn't care about customer/fan feed back, then annoncing one DLC a year to drag out its relevancy??? Then they broke fallout 4 the same time Fallout London launched (coincidence?), and it still isn't fixed.... It all seems to add up to be, if the community does anything other than fix Bethesda's screw ups or add more content to their game than they will go out of their way to shut them down (one way it another, relinquishing their consent at the last minute or updates??), or ignore them... The two projects can actually complement each other. If Skyblivion brings a fresh perspective to the game, it could reinvigorate interest in the franchise and give Bethesda more incentive to support it. There’s always room for fan-driven projects that keep the community engaged. Besides, just because they’ve invested in a remaster doesn’t mean they won’t consider Skyblivion-sometimes fan projects can even spark interest and be a beneficial part of the ecosystem.

Remake and remaster are pretty different things in my language. Remaster = Think Horizon: Zero Dawn. Graphics updates, bug fixes, slight tweaks. Remake = Think Final Fantasy VII. Complete conversion. Everything new: total engine overhaul with new graphics, sound, music, cinematics. Major gameplay changes.

@ northern cyrodiil is mountainous and cold. They could add heat as an issue for southern cyrodiil where it is warm. Like fur armor causing your character to overheat. Economic changes could be made for food prices.

one of the things i realized after years of having a negative stance towards the creation engine was that the way that bethesdas games are made. and the things they do, the systems they work under just outright requires what creation engine offers. some of the things that skyrim does with the scripting for what each character does in the background how the entire world just keeps going even when your character is not present just could not be done on the unreal engine without insane amounts of modification to the engine. so pairing both just.. makes a lot of sense

You can't sell mods for every remaster or game that Bethesda Studios releases. That's not how any of this works. That just cannibalizes sales. Once a new game releases, modders will naturally move to it if its a fun game with good mod support.

So seems like me may have an official and unofficial Oblivion remake. Hopefully its more X-02 power armor regular mod vs paid mod where the quality is similar rather then Half Life Source vs Black Mesa where the quality is insanely lopsided for the unofficial version. Also hopefully Beth, or rather Microsoft now, doesn't try to kill Skyblivion. Shocked MS in their spending spree didn't just by up the mod team.

I'm actually not super worried about Bethesda taking down the Skyblivion project however I'm concerned that a head at Microsoft will try to force Bethesda to do so. Bethesda has always been very mod friendly but they've also never been put in this weird scenario. I hope skyblivion drops 1st so we can at least archive the mod on the Internet somewhere
