Yeah, there is the Bedlam mod to mix up the enemies at least. I know even games back in the day like the original Tenchu knew to have several layouts for its levels. It wouldn't be too hard to have more spawn points in a PoI than will be used at a given time and then have a procedural generator roll up some randomness. At this point it's just undeniable that Bethesda has trapped themselves in an echo chamber where they refuse to hear even the most well-intentioned constructive criticism. We need to accept that the studio that gave us what we all warmly consider to be the quintessential "Bethesda game" is long dead, and in its place is a minimum viable product machine which exists for the sole purpose of exploiting past goodwill to churn out paid mods.

On the way to main location, collect valuables, repair gear, craft mission critical consumables, meet new npcs, manage inventory, feed creatures, claim pets, have random interactions based on setting, changing conditions based on time of day, make gear type synergize with factions and resources. Have game transition seamlessly. Long way from point A to point B is part of every good game. What makes something a great game is how much distractions studio places in between. Starfield's problem is it's ALL of the bad of bethesda with little to none of the good. The entire GAME is the radiant system. They've been escalating that system for no reason since skyrim. Skyrim did it fine as it allowed you to get a reason to explore areas with no real content. Fallout 4 made it worse by having the Minutemen's whole questline rely on it. Then Bethesda is great at world design and environmental storytelling and instead of focusing on it they make a huge empty space map that repeats randomly over and over and the handcrafted stuff is boring. They did bad with that in fallout 4 with the settlement system which just made potentially cool locations empty for an unwanted base builder feature. They still have no real " unique " weapons like in Fallout new vegas or skyrim. The legendary system is dumb when you can get the exact weapon that is " unique " randomly. Sigh, es6 is worrying

You've been an optimist when it comes to Starfield. I think that hope has been obscuring your analysis of what's going on. From the very start, Todd and Emil's opinion seemed to mirror that Simpsons meme; "Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong." They didn't see anything wrong with Starfield, and they weren't going to change it significantly. And it's absurd launch sales (driven mostly by Bethesda Brand hype instead of game info) reinforced that idea for them. As for why the DLC was subpar. Because they're lying about how many people are involved in developing content for the game. Or they're fudging those numbers by including marketing, facility management staff, and janitorial staff. Or, and here's the darker option. The reason why all those earlier game DLCs came out so fast, was because they were being developed alongside the core games and were mostly done by launch. And no, Todd didn't confirm they were doing annual DLC. When asked if they wanted to in that Matty interview he said ""I would say we want to...more or less, yeah. How long that continues? Hopefully, a very long time, but that's...we're planning for the one after this, so there will be another one." That's not the answer of a man who actually has anything planned out on paper. That's a soft answer about what he'd like to do. If he did have anything actually planned he would have hinted or hyped a little with "oh, we're going to some interesting places after this." which is what Todd does. This was a corporate spokesman trying to make it seem like they have a plan and have already started on it. let's be blunt. They didn't think they'd need to do any more design work on the game after the 1 DLC and they're struggling. They have no ideas and no plans. Todd and Emil had this "vision" for their ideal dream game, but they didn't have any actual STORY ideas. They're fine creating content to go in settings and stories other people created originally. But when on their own the best they can do is "What if Firefly, but boring and not a western".

Why does resetting the universe only affect constellation in any real meaningful way? Like why aren’t some universes entirely fc or uc or cf? Why not a universe that’s still going thru the colony war? Why is the hunter mainly just one guy, us, or Cora coe? Might have that very last one wrong. Vae victus’ reasoning for the whole terrormorph thing is ridiculous and heavily dampens the uc story(in my opinion at least) why does the fc ranger quest pretty much end after Ron hope? Are there no other serious threats the rangers need to deal with? So on and so on.

They are planning another expansion for Starfield? As someone who lost interest in playing the game soon after launch, I can't say that I'm too stoked about that... I'd rather they'd cut their losses and put all of their effort into TES6 while learning from their mistakes AND the mistakes and successes of other games. Like the mistakes from Dragon Age the Veilguard and the accomplishments from Baldur's Gate 3.

@JohnHPixelMD and also it already happened in many ways. If the rest of the industry had no impact on the way Bethesda makes games, the games they'd make would be still on the technological level of Morrowind and Oblivion. We wouldn't have a buggy in Starfield. We wouldn't have gotten Fallout 76. They are listening to the outside. Yet due to ego, pride or a sense of superiority that stems from their past successes, they think they know better. And thus they only implement some of the features and mechanics other games had while ignoring others.

The lesson Bethesda needs to learn is “release a smaller single player game every 4 years, open and interconnected world that’s hand crafted” That’s what this doesn’t have that other games did. Shorten development cycles, make smaller games on less grand scales that have that smooth exploration of an open world. Release games more frequently so there’s more variety and a larger catalog of experiences for fans. The answer is obvious - they’re just seemingly doing all they can to rationalize not taking the obvious approach.

Hangar bays for smaller ships. "Land" vehicles with improved verticality (like a drone or helicopter). This all could exist in Starfield, with not too much extra effort. The budget is rumored to be around 200 million. If that's correct, I wouldn't exactly call that a success. Third of all we don't know of any other sales numbers outside of steam as Microsoft and Bethesda haven't given them. We don't know how many players purchased the game outright as opposed to getting it on gamepass for a month and dropping it after. The 15 million player number is just that, a player number. Player numbers don't translate to raw sales due to gamepass. Try again.

@TheBlackRose3Ай бұрын
I actually somewhat enjoyed this DLC and I think it is a step in the right direction because it is content focused. Biggest complaint is that $30 is unacceptably high for something this short. For that price there needed to be at least a questline consisting of at least 8 quests, and 25 side quests. They really need to stop prioritizing features over quests. Also, we need to face the reality that there’s no fixing the procedural locations. They’re always going to be boring because there’s no substance to them. Minor locations in other Bethesda games are only interesting because of lore, and you can’t procedurally generate that. At this point I think the best move for Bethesda is accepting that Starfield is what it is and moving on to Elder Scrolls 6.

Starfield taps into the magic of spaceflight, but removes flight. You said it yourself Todd in an interview, “I want to land my ship too”. Starfield is a dope enough game it deserves to fly. Despite how little atmospheric flight was addressed before release, everyone held hope they could fly their ship. And when we found out we couldn’t, it broke all our hearts a little. You can do all the factions at once, the romance options are boring, companions are boring - I can't even talk to them, seriously why can't I talk to them about thoughts on this place, or thoughts on this quest? The only conflict is UC sysdef and the pirates, and it doesn't matter outside the quest which way you go. There is no reward to explore. It doesn't need as many systems if all the content could be fit on 10% of them. Bethesda just didn't think when making this game.

Agreed, the writing was so contrived and the character interaction DEI that it was so clear instead of telling the story, a group of social justice nitwits were only trying to make a point. Also, instead of 1000 planets with one city per planet on a handful, there should be multiple cities on some of the planets. A planet with a breathable atmosphere and resources should have at least three major cities with roads connecting them, multiple outposts, farms, energy production. Bethesda created an entire planet but only 5% of it is not procedural generated.

my problem with starfield was that the different faction quests were far superior to the main quest. the main quest had a disappointing and unsatisfying ending in my opinion. finding all those artifacts should have led to the discovery of an alien race and its fantastic universe-altering secret--or something along those lines. also, the different powers should have been obtained each time we discovered and touched an artifact; there was no need to go gallivanting around the galaxy to locate a gazillion additional temples, each one exactly the same, and go thru the same animation again and again. (i grew so bored of this that i simply installed a mod that gave me all the powers at max level.) here's a tip, bethesda: for next year's dlc, have it include an alternate ending, one with aliens and truly ancient ruins, complete with dungeons and bosses and great discoveries. in other words, make it exciting.
