I am aware of this now, I've been told I need to smash it over the onions, so I guess it's not a smash burger, but it sure was delicious!

@@DinesenDelights This is still a smash burger, you just smashed your patties beforehand vs on the cooking surface like 99% of people do. I pre-smash my patties as well because it's easier to cook a lot of burgers quickly when you have everything prepared ahead of time (mise en place). Smashing it over onions just makes it a specific kind of smash burger. George Motz has a lot of regional burger videos and that's one of his most famous ones.
