I just scheduled my audition in Chicago for February 4th and I really want to make sure I have everything prepared and have it as professional as it can be for my audition. After watching this I’ve realized that I’m not the only person who feels like this is a lot of pressure and is kind of going a little crazy while trying to make sure everything is set up perfectly. This gave me hope and calmed my nerves so thank you very much!

Dear Amy G for some reason it won't let me reply to your message directly so I hope you see this! I just wanted to clarify something I felt that the pieces I did were not right- I felt that they didn't like what I chose/ performed (this was just my own feelings about it). There is no way to 100% know what type of piece they are looking for (or the reaction to it unless they give you feedback) because each director (or judge as i like to call them lol) has different preferences. They could have liked the speech but felt it didn't suit me, they could have heard the same pieces 5 times before me... the reasons are endless. All I can say is I think they wanted to see something lighter from me (I remember them making a comment like that) but you should always go with something that you feel good and strong in and a speech that you can really connect too because whats right for one person may be completely wrong for another one! Oh and defo choose pieces that are contrasting in tone/ emotion/ character etc... Does all that make sense?
@WinReviews

Dear Rachel zsz, They do make all the students auditioning for the drama program sing unfortunately :( I felt exactly how u feel (I do NOT feel comfortable singing in front of anyone lmao) but they say they want to hear you sing to see how you can tell a story through a song and blahh lol. I don't think they are looking for some Whitney Houston/ Mariah Carey voice but if you are really not feeling confident- which I defo felt like last year, just get some singing lessons so you can work on some technique and sound decent in a song. I felt like I would never be able to sing in an audition, I have always avoided it but ever since I had a few singing lessons last year it gave me the confidence to whip out a VERY short song in auditions if asked haha. Hope that helps! If you live in London I can recommend a teacher to you!?!
9 жыл бұрын
I'm really impressed ... I imagine how stressful this audition can be and seeing you saying you did your best, and how you saved money to travel to NYC ... WOW. Reading the same page five times = totally me x) Anyway, I just wanted to say that I admire what you accomplished just by getting there and hope you'll find another art school or company which will accept you. Or if you take another chance this year, things will work !!

Hello girlygirl14rulez I wasn't sure at first but i have just checked their site and they say 'the Actor Training Program will accept a total of 18 students for all degree levels. This group of 18 actors will be comprised of 8-10 undergraduates and 8-10 graduates, who will work through the four-year acting curriculum together as a group.' The classes/ amount of students are crazy small (in my opinion), have you applied?

Hey Emily, I understand you're scared but if you don't try you will never know- its NEVER too late.., cheesy but true! I'm audition for Juilliard in January. I am so freaking nervous I feel like your review on the audition process is the most real out of all of them. thank you for posting. I do have one question and this is like giving me anxiety. when you go into the audition and you are on the stage. Do they say ' alright when ever you are ready' or do they just expect you to go in and do your monologues? I know this is a weird thing to have anxiety about but lol it seriously gives me anxiety.

It not a stupid question.. your just worried! I cannot tell you how many emails I sent their admissions before I went out there haha so there's no judgment from me about questions! Hi im a freshman in high school and I love acting. I really need to develop my skills and become a very ambitious hardworking person. I have been thinking about Juilliard and how maybe in the future I will audition. I would love to go to Juilliard do you have some advice for me to prepare for all this? it is my goal.
@WinReviews
@WinReviews 9 жыл бұрын
Khadeeja Omar My advice would be to defoooo leave yourself ALOT of time for the application process and if your an international student you will have to have pre screening videos so consider what pieces you want to perform early! I would also say (and its probably said too much lol) choose speeches that are close to your age/accent btw when I say age I mean playing age :) and as for the accent thing do a speech in your natural voice... I made the cringing mistake of trying to do a DEEP southern american accent in an audition... and the outcome wasn't pretty lol. Be yourself (i know cheesy but true) and have fun- at the end of the day you have spent weeks/ months/ agessss preparing for your audition AND paid for it so remember you deserve to be there! I hope that helps and good luck with Juilliard and any other drama courses that you apply for :) oh and feel free to drop me another message if you need help... us drama peeps need to stick together haha :D

Omg this is suchhh a late reply sorry I was checking through comments and saw I did not reply to this. I am hoping you would have found this out by now but just in case if you look on their website or email the school I am sure they can give you a course outline on the vocal training! But I would assume that you would have regular singing lessons in groups and one on one and they would just try and help you to get you voice in a decent/ strong place but are not expecting you to turn into Whitney Housten!

Zoye Burns Yes, you need to sing, but this is only so they can see your range and abilities, it doesn't hinder you if you can't sing. If you sing a song and sing it badly but appear confident, that would show that you have the confidence required to do anything on the stage.

Heyyy, thank you for watching! And I just checked their page and they say: The School does not set a minimum or maximum age limit (with the exception of Dance and the Artist Diploma in Opera Studies; please see those sections above for more information). In general, however, the faculty and the Committee on Admissions will give preference to students in the formative stages of their performance careers who will benefit most from the type of training available at Juilliard. I am! This is my first time, so I'm only applying to RADA and LAMDA--giving it my all, but not expecting anything my first year. For a lot of reasons (that would take a while to explain) Sept 2015 isn't the BEST time for me to enroll, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. I'm in a similar situation to you, but the opposite--I'm a US resident trying to go to UK schools, so it's an expensive process to audition. Luckily most of the first auditions are in NY (still about 5 hours from where I am), but all recalls are in the UK, so I didn't want to apply to 5 schools this year then have to either turn down recalls for lack of money or not be 100% into the school but take an offer just because I get it and would be too excited to turn it down. This is complicated stuff, haha. And yes, we may be old ladies, but it shouldn't be worrying! We have life experience and have been through shit. I was recently looking into one of my fav new actors, James Norton, who happened to go to RADA when he was 23 or 24, and that helped me feel better about it. I think in the US it's unusual though, so if you're auditioning at Juilliard and everyone is 17 don't be discouraged. :) Hope to see you in NY this spring! :D

Earlier on this year I applied to LAMDA, Central (and you obviously know about Juilliard) and Guildhall. As for this year I am still deciding which schools to apply for! To be honest my drama tutor was a friend/ co worker of mine and I consider her more of a mentor so I am not sure where to find a drama tutor- sorry.. I was just VERY lucky to find someone who had acting experience and was willing to help me get through my drama school auditions!! As for courses it depends what your looking for- acting, musical theatre, foundation course or the full BA course... either way I would take my time looking over each course description and see which one appeals to you. What type of course are you looking for?
@1love06
@1love06 9 жыл бұрын
Hey :) So have you got any auditions still to come? I have a few Drama tutors but they charge a hefty exorbitant amount. I'm looking for a BA course in acting. I have not been acting long and consider myself a newbie. I had a tutor from Guildhall and he was good. Apart from that I will be applying by next month to all the Drama schools in the U.K and I was thinking of filling the common application but I have doubts. Nonetheless, seeing you travel all the way to America has given me some strength. Was applying to Juilliard done via The Common application? :)

And I am glad you seem to have found my vlog useful :) and as for the drama tutor if you are finding it a bit expensive (which is COMPLETELY fair play lol) do you have any drama buddies or know any actors with some experience ORRR have a former drama teacher that can watch your pieces and give you constructive feedback?

I would message you but I don't have a clue on how to do that since KZbin has updated lol But these are my last questions I promise lol Do you have to present your monologues? if so how do you present them? And do they want you to move around? Or is it more of stand on the x and stay there kind of thing.

Callie Vice I have JUST seen this message. I don't know how I missed it sorry Callie! You may ask as many questions as you want dude :) and they may ask you to present it, they might not. They did ask for another shakespeare monologue so i gave them cressida from Troilus and Cressida (i literally just said- this is cressida's speech from troilus and cressida). But they asked us to write the name of our speeches down so they might just go- which speech do you want to do first contemporary or classical? But just to be clear be prepared to say this- (for example) My classical monolgue is Adrianna's speech from A Comedy of Errors by Shakespeare ( but they will probably know all the shakespeare ones haha). Oh and they said we could use any space behind a specific point in the room (i think it was a faint line on the floor or something like that) but you can defo move around if that's what your speech needs! Oh and another oh lol your audition will probably be in a BIGG ASS room so just be prepared for that too! When is your audition?

WinReviews My audition is this sunday the 25th. I am very nervous just cause i am not very experienced with this kind of thing. So i have no idea what to expect. You don't know how helpful you have been. I mean you are my life savior at this point. (: i figured they might go over all this but just incase they just expect us to know i wanted to know before hand. I'm not working with any big people i am doing this all on my own so i am terrified. lol

Callie Vice im glad i was of some help! And i know how u feel!!! Btw they will defo go over these types of things in the beginning of the audition so you don't need to try and memorise everything except ur monologues. (obviously lol). Are you auditioning for any other schools?

@WinReviews
@WinReviews 9 жыл бұрын
Heyy :) I recorded it in this studio in south london- this company called somewhereto give performance spaces to young people for free! So I was very lucky- I did not have to pay a crazy amount for the studio :) do you live in London? As for international students I'm not sure how many where there because we (international students) where mixed together with people that where auditioning (and I should also say lived) in america. For my monologues I did Andrianna's speech from A Comedy of Errors and my contemporary speech was from a play called The Adoption Papers! I hope that helps :) and good luck with your audition!!!!

I asked my drama coach and I think I also asked my boss at work- I would double check on their website or even email them to double check. How is a 'normal' person able to pay for schools like Juilliard? I'm 16 years old, and have been trying to find the right school for years now, (UK mainly though) the thing is just that most Uni's where I live are free or have a really small fee (so that you don't have to be rich to study what you love..) , that's why parents don't ever really save up thousands and thousands of euros to give to their children for Uni fees. And it makes me feel really bad to think about the fact that students at such a 'young' age already have to take out a loan of so many thousand pounds, dollars to pay for Uni.. How do people do that? There is nothing that I want more than becoming an actress and to study in the UK but it scares me to think about it... There is no way that I could pay like 40000 Pounds for a single year.. Are all of the drama students' parents rich?! (Sorry for grammar & spelling mistakes..lol)
@WinReviews
@WinReviews 8 жыл бұрын
+Magdalena Hopeful You don't need to apologise your grammar is probably better than mine :p and with Juilliard I was looking for a scholarship or bursary of some kind that's the only way I could afford it! Where are you from? And it does suck that at a young age we have to take out loans but if you don't have parents that can afford it you have no choice :( I have to agree with you the money issue can be scary but you can't let it stop you- you have to at least audition and try to find another way in!
@magdalenahopeful8193
@magdalenahopeful8193 8 жыл бұрын
WinReviews Haha thanks :D Yeah, a scholarship would be quite cool but I think only a really small group of students get one each year, or do they give them to more students? I'm from Austria but after graduation I'll hopefully be able to move to London, it's such an amazing city and you know how they say that home is where your heart is? My heart definitely belongs to London, and the UK in general, never before I have met so many friendly and lovely people like there.. sorry, if I get started on London I kinda can't stop anymore :'D And I definitely wont let it stop me, nothing could ever stop me from pursuing my dream. Thank you for replying and I wish you all the luck in the world on your journey! xx.
