@tr3quart1sta6 жыл бұрын
I like Tom and Juji a lot but this was honestly a really stupid move to have you squat so much weight on your first try. The squat has to be introduced more gently at the beginning in order to learn proper technique first followed by gradual increase in weight in the next training sessions. Trying to test your max on an inexperienced squatter just for some views is simply idiotic. Risking an injury like that is not worth it. I hope though that this should not discurrage you from squatting and next time try it the proper way.

16:03 nah Tom it's not a mobitly thing. As a trainer I see this all the time with noobs. It's just motor control. He said himself that was his first ever barbell squat so the shakiness and uneven lifting is very typical of a beginner It's just his nervous system trying to figure out this new movement. Try to remember back to when you just first started lifting, I'm sure your bench press for example was all wobbly too

Jumping is way more about bio mechanix than strength. things like flexibility core strength and length of tendon vs muscle matter. I played a lot of volleyball in my youth and at one point had a 36 inch vertical. my training had stalled and i consulted a freak of nature leaper we called Jumpin Joe. he was in his 40s and still had a legit 40 inch vert. he took on elook at me and said all the muscles in your legs arent doing any good if you have a big shock abosrber between your hips and rib cage. That winter i DID 0 leg work and instead did tons of abs obliques and lumbar work . I added 2 inches to my vertical . jumping is as much about coordination as it is strength.

I've mentioned it before and I think you guys should watch a basketball video about "taking off"(jumping) I feel like you guys could have wayyy better verticals if you just had better technique. Tom already said it about Juji how he loses some energy when he jumps down. In basketball they make you practice how to transfer energy from your run to your jump, footwork, and they teach to jump upwards and not forward. (That's what tom was doing, if you look at the footage you can see that he's moving forward when he jumps which wastes energy he could be using to go upward) Please spend just a little bit of time working on it, I think it'd make a great video.

That is kind of insane but still possible. Im a 5'8 manlet but my reach is is still 74 inches so haha. I still don't believe Jujus reach is 88 inches. That would give him a 4 inch reach advantage over Jon Jones who is 6'4 with a 84 inch reach. Converted to cm for you right here. 5'8 about 175 cm. 74 inch reach is about 188 cm. 6'4 is 193 cm. 84 inches is 213 cm. Jon jones reach is something actually insane tho, he has a 20cm difference in his height to reach ratio. So Juji definetly doesn't have an 88 inch reach. Trust that haha

Internet backseat coach here just adding my dollar to Magnus' squat. The main things that I'd have him do to improve his squat would be. 1. Think of driving knees out so that they track over the feet; I'd also add that his feet are pointing too far out. 2. Think of sitting a little further back on the descent to allow feet to stay flat and think of driving up through the heels on the ascent. 3. Look ahead and and keep the chest up; less likely to have weight transfer forward. I like Marcus. For someone who's new to grip gauntlet, squats and all things Juji; I like how he's chucked himself in and gone with it.

Rock climbing requires some explosive movements, but full body explosive training will provide constantly better results than any one activity with limited explosive activity. Any proper athletic activity will provide an increase in muscular strength and endurance, so the question is not about whether rock climbers can jump, but how much force and control a rock climber can generate. Juji has superior strength and flexibility than the other two participants, but the explosive strength to weight ratio gives the other two an advantage. It’s a nuanced mathematical model with pros and cons. In other words, if one were to train for martial arts with a heavy emphasis on gymnastics, you’d see superior results in jumping, flipping, running, and other acrobatic activities. It’s naive to think the difference in ability is going to be large unless you’re comparing traits specific to a particular activity that requires training. A good example of this is the skill difference between Juji and an experienced rock climber. That difference is easily seen and appreciated. The jumping difference isn’t very large because all parties do some type explosive jumping movement.

APE INDEX somehow sounds racist.
@tigerbend19646 жыл бұрын
Ur not gonna like hearing this if you think that sounds racist but black people on average have a higher ape index then white people. Which translates in olympic swimmers being mostly white and olympic sprinters being mostly black (aka the stereotype)

What does a human evolution index have to do with race?
@tigerbend19646 жыл бұрын
@@Jack-tu5zf it's not an evolution index. It's a limb vs torso index The same way there is a different average height for different races there is a different point on the index for different races.

@@tigerbend1964 swimmers tend to have longer wingspans, the racial makeup of elite athletes is generally more of a social/cultural matter than a racial matter. However, "race" does matter a bit, despite it being kind of arbitrary and outdated.

I would love to see more vertical jump testing and/or jump training. Or if you're daring enough, go to the mall and test random people's verticals lol.

You two guys and Magnus are a dream team. I enjoyed every single one of them.

Standard NFL vertec testing is from standing under the machine not from running. Running might be a more efficient way to measure basketball aptitudes but as it implies inertial running speed as well the result is a bit more complex than just giving raw jumping power.

I think another way to say what Tom said about him trying hard on everything was that he COMMITS on everything. Full send everytime lol

Glad Magnus was OK after missing the one jump. I missed a box jump just like Magnus a couple of months ago and gashed my shin. 13 stitches later, I'm thinking of retiring box jumps for good unless the box has padding . Y'all be mindful of box jumps! I'm OK though.
