It wasn’t yuji’s first time seeing a transfigured human. Him and nanami killed 2 and that’s where Yuji heard that they died from the shock of having their soul/body transfigured. Yuji just released them from their suffering. Yuji tried to restrain junpei because he had hoped there was some way to undo it. That’s when he begged sukuna to heal him and sukuna laughed at him as junpei succumbed to damage caused by the transfiguration.

Also if i had to guess his fire arrow is just another application of his cursed technique in which he compresses his slashes to such a degree that the friction generated by the endless slashes clashing into each other produces enough heat for him to be able to form his fire arrow and “fuga” is simply the chant he must say in order to use it much like how he needs to say chants in order to launch his world cutting dismantle

i think sukuna is the death (or maybe torture) cursed spirit. it would only make sense. all of his cursed techniques have something to do with ways you can kill/torture someone. his malevolent shrine is covered in skulls and things that look very fleshy. maybe this is already a theory out there i’m not too entirely sure but it makes sense to me and i’m hoping it would make sense to you all too.
