I may be mistaken but I think the explanation of firing and retraction at the end is not quite correct. I think the CO2, upon initial release, pressurized the area *above* the white piston. As described, the next thing that happens is the needle+housing assembly is forced downward, and the needle projects from the bottom of the device and entering the injection target. Note that until the needle+housing extension is complete, the syringe plunger has not yet been moved and no drug solution has been expelled. After full needle+housing assembly extension is complete (and the needle is fully extended into the injection target), the built up pressure becomes large enough to further compress the 'return spring' and the white piston begins actually moving the syringe plunger to deliver the drug solution. When that process completes, the by-pass channel at the top is opened and CO2 vents from the top down into the syringe chamber. This depressurizes the top compartment, allowing the compressed return spring to expand which pushes the entire needle+housing assembly back up into the device (thus the needle is fully retracted) and the cycle is complete.

Very nice breakdown! Great little device. So- based on this, do you think the device can be de-activated by careful removal of the gas cannister through the top right portion (under the top-cap), and the electronics could be removed at anytime without firing the device? The electronics appear to be only a sensor bundle and voice chip and only read the system instead of actuate the system. The gas is critical to firing, so if the cannister can be removed without puncture, that would disable the device.
