Phenomenal second game by Gates. I've never seen such a high MPR over many rounds. Statistics of that leg. 23 darts thrown 61 marks Ave 7.3 16 trebles 2 doubles (though one was a treble) 4 singles 1 miss (the third dart) Holy moly. Frighteningly good. If I score 4.5 over 8 rounds I am very happy. This is elite world class. Are Gates and JvD representing the US at the World Cup of darts? I'll cheer them on if they are. Absolutely stunning stuff.

It’s really a simple game. Hit each number 3 times to close it. 1 trip closes the number. If the other person hasn’t closed that number it can then be scored on until it is closed. First person to close all numbers and be ahead on points wins the game.

@@davidwilson9278yes soft tip darts can play standard 01 games. Double in double out , open in double out , master in master out. There are a lot of different 01 games on an electronic board.

I do not get closing a new number when behind in points especially when your opponent is pointing on a higher number? Seems mathematical suicide! But I see it often and usually the player trying that loses. I think someone wrote a dumb strategy book on that and some players think it smart?

Gates doesn’t play the close/score. He loads the points up. I understand the other players strategy but the only thing is Gates doesn’t miss. Phenomenal player. I’ve never seen Phil Taylor or other world champs act like that after hitting a mark on a bristle board.

Say you close out every number first.. you can't win if you are down by points.. it's a defensive strategy to score points to not allow or stop your opponent from advancing.. example: going off of your logic.. if you start first and you open up with t20 t19 t18 you are closer to finishing the game then I am at this point.. my option is not to open and match what you did because technically it's hard to match and if I miss I'll be at a huge disadvantage.. so my option to stop you from advancing more is to score points.. so I'll attempt to hit t17 t17 t17.. now I'm up 102 points to your 0.. I could also go t17 t17 and attempt t20 to close out one of your numbers now and be up only 51 points instead but if I miss t20 now all you need is one t20, t19 or t18 and you'll have a higher score than me.. your 60, 57 or 54 to my 51.. so the point is to score enough to at least have you waste more than 1 dart.. the more you waste darts scoring the longer it takes for you to advance.. so I have 102 points.. and now you need to waste at least 2 darts hitting the t20, t19 or t18.. so depending on what you hit next my strategy is to always score high and try to pick away at your t20, t19, and t18.. there are so many scenarios strategies that play out and I would be be here writing a novel but that's kind of the gist of it.. but that's the reason it takes long.. it's the defensive strategies mainly by the guy who is farther away from closing out all the numbers.. but you can also be ahead and still be defensive.. closing and scoring at the same time for assurance..
