I'm with you on the procrastination. Another thing is that I find it hard to start something and then keep it going.

Thank you for sharing this. I feel your pain about the thumbnails as I find it hard to draw on such a small scale. I have a few drafts of those too and I started using layout paper as it is cheap and I can trace through parts of the previous versions if needs be. I am currently doing line work for my first book (I have been working on this for some time, though mostly procrastinating) and realise the importance of thumbnails. I will probably self publish but, being an introvert by nature, I am totally dreading the marketing side. 😱

My most difficult task is doing the artwork. I am getting better with practice. I hadn't done art for 50 years. Your videos are always encouraging to me. Just today I finished a one-off project. I was stuck for a conclusion, so I re-watched your videos on finishing and endings. Bingo! My editor approved of my conclusion. Thank you, I always refer to your channel and website. Proud to say I have inspired two people to start their books. BTW, I am soon to start Volume 4 of my 7-part series (I'm the person that asked you about doing stick figures a year or so ago).

Wow go Shadowgunner! Well done for 'sticking' with it. See what I did there?

So true! The only thing I weirdly love the most and it goes easily are actually the thumbnails ... probably because I uniformed how I write my stories based on the number of pages and I did sooo many books before... Administration is the most boring ever!!!!! Distractions I hear you!!!! Same here!

You are amazing. Everyone in KZbin is constantly telling how easy one can do this or that and making lots of money. . You are one of the few honest, real, authentic creator that tells very important subjects. Thank you sooooo very much for making this video . 😊 wish you lots of succes.

Marketing is most definitely the most intimidating aspect of self-publishing for me! It’s why I’ve been dragging my feet on finishing my project because once I finish, I have to do something with it and yikes! It’ll be “what now?!” Any tips on marketing you’d like to share would be massively appreciated ❤

Loved this Jules and even sent it to a friend! Your GF pizza looks ace and I like to imagine that was no dairy milk too. Difficult things about my job, the people I work with. Great things about my job, the people I work with (you know who you are).

Hi Jules. I listen again to this video and heard for the first time that you, too, have a longer book this time around. Mine is 87 pages and I thought it wasn’t allowed. But recently as I thought about it further, there ARE books for young ones that are that long but are broken up into parts, I.e., chapters, if you will. Question: is that how you’re going to break yours up - into chapters? I have found a new wind in my spirit after yesterday. By the way, I shared this video to my Facebook page to help inspire others on. You’re the best…

Thanks for sharing Sharon :) My age range for this book is 5-7, so the word count is about right for that group. There aren't any chapters, I'm just making it a picture book that is longer than normal. If you have a look at Oliver Jeffers' new book Meanwhile back on Earth, that's the sort of thing I mean. Good luck with yours! I'm glad you are keeping me in the loop :)

Hi Jules like you I find things get in the way of creativity. Trying to carve outa block of free time, free of everyday chores, is difficult as once your on a role the dog wants to play or husband wants to be fed 😅. Your idea about mobile thumbnails is great. The thing I find most difficult is deciding what size page for my bleed illustrations over a two page spread. I'm getting better now I'm using Canva. It was interesting that your publisher asked you to change the font in your book. Do you have a video about how to choose the best font for a book? Take care. X

I am illustrating my 1st book digitally. The hardest is going back to make changes i.e if a character doesn't look the same on all the illustrations or inconstencies in the colors. These improvements are taking me ages, and I'm wondering if this story will ever be published😮

Difficult for me is getting published: I was all ready to go for it and after researching the website I found I had formatted the entire book the wrong size. There had been some changes to the size they would publish for children. WHATTTT???!!! That meant each page had to be trimmed down and the resolution even had to be changed. I have been so upset, I stopped working on it. Then, after all those revisions made, the book I wanted to do held more than the standard 25 pages -- it turned out to be like 87. WHATTT???!!! Now what? My big decision is whether to self-publish the larger size, having split the book into, say, five chapters, or what? Can I even do that? I've seen age 4 children's book that were large and split into sections. What's your take on this Jules? Can't I publish larger for this age group and separate the story into sections with no more than 25 pages for each section? Amazon does not want to answer questions, they expect you to do research/read what they have to say for each topic; much harder than having Createspace help you along. I respect your expertise. Sharon.

Love your videos, I was wondering what font you used and what did they request? I'm not one to do thumb nails. I just jump in and create my first draft. The hardest part for me is deciding which medium to do the book in. I'll do 5-6 different works before I decide which medium I like best.
