She's so talented and some of these early scenes still make me emotional because of how much her character suffered in the other dimension. Outside of a few key moments coming, I barely remember Angel, so it's almost new watching along. It's just because I've watched Buffy over 60 times thru, but Angel only around 10. I love Angel, but life got in the way of more watching of Angel, and losing the person I watched it with, was just too many memories. Even Buffy, Firefly and LOTR, I had to wait until years after she died before attempting to watch any of them again. Watching with you, and the emotions you feel watching, makes it easier to deal with the memories. Thank you Jules.

She's one of my favourite Buffyverse characters, and it's nice to see that she's already endeared herself to the rest of the team. It's a relief to see that her parents are just as delightful - the whole family is a big ray of sunshine. They do such a good job of making them seem ominous, it's such a nice surprise to find out that they're good people. It's one of those rare times where there are happy endings all round. In Fredless, Fred asks about Angel’s relationship with Buffy, curious because he left so abruptly to meet her at the end of the previous episode. One of the funniest moments in the show is when Cordelia and Wesley put on an overly-dramatic, humorous play that summarizes what Angel and Buffy's off-screen reunion might have been like. When Angel meets Fred's parents a very funny scene. Just comedy overload from Lorne talking about The Godfather 3 film, brilliant writing. Fred of course doesn't really want to leave, and works out what is happening and saves the day. Wesley talking about his past and childhood very telling, and you can see how this has affected him as an adult. All in all a very entertaining episode.

Hey there, Jules! 👋💜 An interesting episode, with the big red herring. The parents cryptic conversations, and then hammering home the misdirection using Lorne, and his " ... you haven't run far enough." Selling the whole thing. 😉 But the rest of the episode was very comedic, from the opening Cordelia and Wesley doing their interpretation of "that girl with the goofy name" and Angel. 😂 And then just quick, humorous bits for most of the remainder of the episode. Fred's mother, being clutch, using her occupation to save the team, and the dad - "Son... your prop is Drippin' " 🤣 They are both often seen guests on a wide variety of TV series - the dad has even been on X-Files a couple of times. A good feel episode, finally putting to bed Fred's emotional disturbance from her years of isolation - another Epiphany! episode, and even an explanation of the cryptic conversations from the Burkles - all neatly tied up. 😊 I also find this interesting, perhaps only to me, but still... that the two stories sort of mirrored one another. The bug being mysterious, and vaguely threatening, as were Fred's parents, but, in the end, both were simply taking steps to see to the safety of their children. You yourself have maybe started another comment string, with your anticipation of more on the Angel Buffy meet up - maybe engendering another stream of entries describing the facts of 2 networks, giving the detailed history of both , when and why they were started, the various failures of both and the continuing history of their dysfunctional relationship, as with all things commercial in America, or the United States thereof. Lots of cutting and pasting... it'll probably be very fun! ... oops! Where'd this milk crate come from?🤭 Great episode, and of course another appearance of the night sky, full of stars! Always a great look! I am happy you liked this one. As always it is nice to have a pleasant story told in these episode reactions. This was a good one. Cordelia, and Fred - very quirky and funny - even Angel, getting giddy over Cordelia calling next up for multiple stab wounds 😅 Have a great Tuesday, Jules 💜🤗💜 After a very hot weekend here, I am more than happy to enjoy the return to more seasonally normal air, and am encouraging its enjoyment everywhere. I hope you too, find yourself in some peaceful season transitional comfort. Take Care. Be Well. 🥰👋

Ah well. I'll just have to carry that little dream in my heart or read some fan fiction one day HAHA It was a great episode! I adore Fred, she's so lovely. I'm so glad that she's not gone as it was just too soon to say goodbye. I think she fits in SO nicely here, and she's incredibly intelligent! I truly hope that she stays for as long as she wants and she does not, in any way, have a bad ending 🥲 I think a LOT of complaints would be made 🤣 Enjoy your cooler day and be well yourself, dear Tom! It's been lovely here, the calm before the storm of summer 💜

Someone must have said, what if Wes and Drusilla had a secret love child, who was sent through a dimensional portal to a dystopian New York City crime drama? That would be Root in Person of Interest. It's nice that someone in the Buffyverse has a nice family, it's like, Fred and Buffy basically right? I guess Oz and Giles might have a fine family life that they just don't talk about.
@shaynaformity13844 ай бұрын
Giles had a tense relationship with his dutiful father. He said in Never Kill a Boy on the First Date, “I was ten years old when my father told me I was destined to be a Watcher. He was one, and his, uh, mother before him, and I was to be next. […] I had very definite plans about my future. I was going to be a fighter pilot. Or possibly a grocer. Well, uh… My father gave me a very tiresome speech about, uh, responsibility and sacrifice.” Giles's childhood and family history were fleshed out in the comics. I wouldn't say Buffy had a nice family life - her father didn't even call when Joyce died!
@themediater4 ай бұрын
I mean, she had Joyce though, having a single parent doesn't mean you can't have a nice life. Obviously Buffy has a whole heap of other crap going on but her mom did a lot for her. I find it cute tha instead of trying to seing a song that is in any way meaningful to her, Fred picks the simplest, most irrelevant song to sing: "Row, row, row, your boat..." And Lorne winces with the first words out of her mouth. Of course, this being _Angel,_ Fred's fear is that the last few years of her life were real instead of being, like the song says, "Life is but a dream" (or a nightmare), which means that the song she picked was exactly on point.

Yeah, I think Angel turning up and saying "I don't want to talk about it" was a bit of a meta joke about how it was impossible to do proper crossovers now that the shows were on different networks. I guess, important that we know that Angel knows that Buffy has been brought back to life, but beyond that just getting on with their own stories now.

Reality can be hard to deal with without having monsters and beings from other worlds introduced. No wonder Fred ran away! It was easier to deal with the fantasy of it all rather than the actuality of it. That is why she ran, and why she was crushing on Angel, for that matter. Now that she has had a chance to reconcile her life and parents, I think she will be ok. I do wonder if there is something supernatural about her parents, though.... They seemed awfully even keeled for parents who haven't seen their daughter in 5 years!! It's one thing to not visit... it is quite another to go missing! Maybe they are demonic after all? I am enjoying your comments and I have to say... don't feel bad about following the red herrings! There were certainly quite a few intentionally well placed ones in this episode, including Fred demanding for her parents to turn the car around! I thought Angel and Co were going to have to save Fred from her "parents"!! Lots of fun though! Thank you!

OO Love Fredless. I know you are going to be disappointed by the entire Buffy-Angel meet off stage. I think by now the two shows were on two different networks and for a few special episodes they manage to create some cross pollination, the casual mixing of the two shows is mostly over. They exist in the same universe but are running on their different tracks LA and Hellmouth Sunnydale. I think Joss had it saved as something he could possibly revisit in another episode. I do Love Wesley's and Cordelia's vicious dissection of the Angel-Buffy relationship which was about where I was at with that relationship at the end. Handsome Man saves Her.
