She should’ve been a superstar but the label never supported her like she deserved. I’ve known her for 25 years and I think she’s the most extraordinary singer songwriters I’ve ever known.

Julia so deserved to get far more recognision for her work, she was so badly underrated. Her vocal range is just astonishing to this song, especially the low register. 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏

Beautiful. Encapsulates how far popular culture has sunk in the last thirty years. The Julia Fordhams of today (if they even exist)would be ignored while puerile, prurient, potty-mouthed morons lacking in talent yet abundant in Cluster B qualities are given opportunity, fame, accolades, and fortune. This is a stunning song and performance.

You are absolutely right! Julia Fordham is just simply a modest, moral woman with good wholesome values and incredible talent! These days, I am just absolutely repulsed by the ridiculous and disgusting crap that I hear kids listening to! I work at a restaurant as a dishwasher and quite a few of my immature co-workers always play the stupidest rap music where the "F" word is constantly used and they always say offensive racial slurs in those pitiful excuses for songs. When some of those co-workers of mine speak to one another, every other word is always the "F" word. Plus most of them have tattoos on their bodies. I am a 41 year old man, I have no tattoos or body piercings, and even though I may use a cuss word once in a while, I don't throw the "F" bomb around constantly like many young people in this generation do. Julia Fordham has an amazingly angelic singing voice and she is the perfect description of what REAL talent is all about! ~Dutch

A slightly odd comment, given that Julia Fordham was never a superstar and was pretty much ignored in her day. In the UK she never had a top 10 album or a top 20 single. It would appear popular culture had sunk pretty low by the early 90s.

KZbin recommendations popped up the main video and I thought she was very pretty so I watched it out of curiosity. As soon as she started singing I was like “holy shit”😳 I was a kid in the late 80s but I never heard this. Now it’s a favorite. In a way I’m glad I didn’t find it until later in life so I can attach it with a more relevant era for me personally.

She sang it very faithfully to the (then) recently released single except even better, which was quite an accomplishment. In this one she sings along to the "Um by yay" part (she didn't in the radio released version) and adds her own beautiful vocal harmony (the low notes, of course), which makes it a little better, IMHO.

@DonGilder thanks for this clip and acknowledging Miles Bould! Unsure where he is or what he's doing, but he was a great percussionist / drummer - Julia helped launch his career as an in-demand session guy in the late 80's & throughout the 90's. I know I saw him with sting and Joe Cocker back in the day!
