OK so American observer, as far as I could tell Julia Gillard never gave any real reason as to why she took the leader ship away from Kevin Rudd, I saw one interview where she said she would never speak about it publicly. Did she? I also saw another interview where she felt she wasn’t given a fair chance because she was a woman but I don’t see how that could be if she never adequately made the case or gave a reason as to why she felt Kevin Rudd should not continue as Prime Minister. I mean people voted for him to be Prime Minister and it feels like a disrespect to the voters to not explain why you’re challenging his leadership.

Kevin Rudd loss a lot of his popularity and was on track to lose the next election, she was encouraged to by people in her party.

​@@smilesmite6682 but he wasn't on track to lose the election. He was well in front in polling at the time. It's some incredible revisionist history that says a 52 to 48 lead in newspoll is "on track to lose".

@@scottf1000 no he wasn’t, I can remember pretty clearly how unpopular he was, his decision to light prince Philip as well was pretty damaging for him, the reason Malcolm Turnbull gave for the spill motion was Abbott losing 30 newspoll in a row

You have to understand a bit of the context, Kevin Rudd had been *so* popular for a long time, but over the course of a few months (in an election year) his ratings and the government's ratings consistently slid. After being consistently ahead by giant margins, the first Newspoll that came out showing the Labor Party behind sent shockwaves through the government, Kevin was rolled and Julia was put in. They were both successful prime ministers but they destroyed each other. Kevin shouldn't have been thrown out but he shouldn't have spent the next 3 years undermining Julia either.
