I emigrated to Canada in 1993 and I had to satisfy the Canadian government's full list of requirements. I had to complete a full criminal background check, a full medical examination and above all, I had to prove that I could support myself for the first five years if I was unemployed. The whole process took almost two years and it was expensive. If I had been denied entry into Canada, I would not have then just rocked up at Toronto Airport. The people who are entering the UK illegally are queue jumpers who simply would never be allowed in under any circumstances if they applied through the proper process. These people are not desperate refugees, they are people who care nothing about laws and decency.
