try to remember how many people actually could trill upon trill upon trill upon trill like this... I have only heard Sills and ocassionally dame Joan being able to trill THIS often inside an aria...

@@alioffe4321 i think that singers who dont have such an easy trill if they keep trilling like this they result in vocal arrest... inside the aria... thats why there are some "Lazy" Trillers (Caballe)...

@@LohengrinO Viardot calls this effect the release of rigidity in the voice. To trill in an extended period of time as done here masterfully by Julia, bless her heart, is a mental challenge as well as an anatomic one. It requires an olympic effort, too. It helps a lot if you are a natural born triller. But anyone can master a trill. Not having one is inexcusable (La Superba has left the chat)

she is a very strange voice, all of her centers seem natural... from soprano to mezzo and I think she can go very low... she is like a very wide ranged Countetenor / Sopranist but with natural soprano register

@@LohengrinO What ?? 😱 Well years ago i once tried to watch a Traviata played at la Monnaie de Bruxelles that i had recorded on Arte.... it was just hideous and it was not even well sung. It was a modern set, it was very vulgar (with drugs, drunk people vomiting on stage etc) and it completely killed the Traviata spirit. Seeing Violetta servant sniffing drug using a bank note as a stray was disturbing to say the least. I played it in fast speed and each decor was uglier than the previous one and the death of Violetta in the street as a homeless wrapped in plastic bags..... I was spechless. What a bad souvenir. 😑

I tend to agree with you, generally speaking, but I must say that the decor is quite tasteful here, so I let it pass. Otherwise it is interesting to sort of look in to times gone by with a proper staging. Anyhow, the singing is beautiful and the orchestra plays the music very well.

1920’s is hardly modern. I used to hate updated adaptions but now i quite enjoy them! Freshens them up and makes you also appreciate the “original” more too!

She has a beautiful trill.. much better than a lot of singers today.. it is for me still missing something.. I don’t know what it is.. but when I think trill.. I think the sound of a boiling kettle.. limpid... young callas trovatore, Fleming, Sutherland, sills... but it could also be that what made it sound like that in their voices was the timbre.. so 🤷🏾‍♂️ ... that spoken.. I would take Julia’s trill over anybody else’s today.. it is a thing of beauty.
