really love this performance. i like her voice, performance, facial expression. plus she´s a really beautiful lady. and the aria itself is for me one of the rare examples of 19th century coloratura aria that i really like. even the words are beautiful, they´re making sense and telling a charming story. i like the oriental flavor and delibes´s music is simply beautiful, charming and exciting at the same time.

She seems to become more relaxed as the performance progresses. Which is understandable as it must be pretty hard. But she should relax because she's superb. The voice is beautiful, she sings with integrity and charm. I think there's a bit more vulnerability in her voice compared to Sumi, and it gives humanity to her singing, which I like!

Technique? Tone? Trills? Range? I don't know a lot about those aspects of performance, but for me this is a very pleasing, sweet rendition. Her voice seems very relaxed and natural...no straining or theatrics. Just my opinion.

+Oscar Grau -- I am 76 years old. I know about Lily Pons and her conductor-husband Andre Kostelanetz. I used to have several 78 RPM records of her arias. Same with Amelita Galli-Curci, Tito Schipa and Enrico Caruso. My point was that an artist's life -- any artist -- goes through a cycle of discovery, fame, decline and then is forgotten as next generation of artists (like Novikova and Netrebko) is discovered. Perhaps I should not have used Ms Lily Pons' name and instead substituted a generic name like Mary Soprano or Joe Tenor.

Ramon O Novikova has a natural and beautiful voice, but technical foul. Now she is young and beautiful, and his voice works well, but it will be difficult technique for the future. But "choice" plays a huge part - for instance, I would not EVER descibe Netrebko as a "hack"....I thinks she has a lovely voice - but I also recognise,that, at times, she has attempted arias that were completely wrong for her, with disasterous results! Conversely, I was listened her singing another one(and I can't remember which one now...think it was the waltz from R &J!) and then listened to about 6 others, and to me, Netrebko's interpetation of it was the one that "cut the mustard" for me!
