$4,500 a month is not terrible for living in New York City!! Especially since you make a good amount from your job. The fact that you have money left for savings and you budget that good is great most older people struggle with that. This inspires me as a young 21 yr old to be like this by 25

@@miramirla3462 unfortunately Software engineering is the kind of field where the learning process varies from person to person. As a Software engineer myself, I usually hear from other engineers that college is a waste for a to be engineer and that it is better to either pay a bootcamp or if you have the discipline for it, to be self taught (KZbin, research). There are some that I've talked to that liked their college but mostly to just experience college rather than the learning process. If you insist on a college in NY, I would say any of the cuny schools that offers computer science should be fine (NYIT, City College, etc.)

This seems super reasonable! You're doing a great job of balancing being frugal and enjoying being in the city :) I really love the idea of planning days where you don't eat out. And a random tip-I also have Adobe CC, and have always been able to get a decent discount when my renewal comes around by simply going through the cancel account flow-they usually have a few offers before you actually cancel where I've saved like $20 a month on that subscription.

Don’t judge yourself about your budget, nor let others’ judgement get to you! You’ve earned it, and you know how to live your life best. 💸💸 Probably it’s different for you, but living within an Asian family and as a first gen I had to learn for myself that there’s a lot more to money and life than just “saving for rainy weather” or for some future that we have no control over. Proud of you for having a solid control of your finances and living life the way you want it!!
@juliafei
@juliafei Жыл бұрын
Oh no, I relate to this so much! As a fellow first gen kid in an Asian household, my parents still tell me that I should be living at home & saving on rent money instead. But there’s gotta be a fine balance between spending and saving right? Especially when we so work hard to make money in order to live the lifestyle we want 😓

I always love these types of videos! It’s so interesting how living expenses vary throughout the country and the world. What you choose to do with your money is your business. I work at a credit union and it’s always interesting to see how people chose to allocate their funds. It’s kind of crazy what a persons account can tell you about a person 😆 but if anybody is reading this SAVE SAVE SAVE (if financially able). Even if it’s just $10 per pay check. And think about putting money towards a retirement fund even if you’re 20 years old. It seems so far away but you will need it eventually.

You deserve this! Hard working, beautiful and smart young woman 👏💰💰 Number is crazy in my eyes as we live in totally different world. We live in Prague and for two people and a dog we spend around 2.5k € sometimes more as we buy something surprising like a new bed or going for summer vacation. We try to save as much money as we can, I cook for most of the days a week. My lunch when I go to the office and go to my favourite vegan "tray restaurant" is around 6€ 😄 so very good price for Prague. And I know for fact that people here are able (or have to) live for much less than we are.

According to the most recent census in 2022 the average household income in NYC (5 boroughs) is only $67,046 . I'm a native New Yorker and personally make a good amount more than this but according to the census most people in NYC live on a lot less than 1k+/week for one person. My rent was less than yours but going out and eating at restaurants (except street food which is less expensive) was way more hahahah. I really enjoy that kind of content because it shows that everyone budgets in a different way and it’s okay to treat yourself and enjoy sharing a good drink or meal with friends. this is super interesting and kinda crazy for me. I'm a 24 year old student in germany and currently pay for all my monthly expanses myself (my parents only pay my yearly university tuition which is about 700 euros). what you spend in a week in new york is about the same if not more as what i spend the entire month living in germany. I share a flat with a friend and we each pay 450 in rent and utility. i spend about 50 in random subcriptions and about 200 on groceries. i spend about 100-200 for eating out and meeting friends and the rest is either saved up or spend on new clothes, amazon buys etc. my income is 1200 so i nearly spend all the money i make. cant wait to finish uni and get a full time job tho :)

as a data scientists I would hope you know to multiply weekly expenses, not by 4, but by 4.33 since there are 4 1/3 weeks per month when calculated over a year. But nice breakdown and really cool to see what it costs!

I spend approx. the same over the bridge here in Jersey for my son & I so don’t feel too bad. It’s all about location & I wanted the best for him 🤷🏻‍♀️ as I’m sure you wanted the same for you! Love your videos thanks for always sharing!
