My program is 24 months and a failing grade for us is 78 and under. But I just had my last day of my first quarter! I definitely psyched myself out thinking it would be extremely hard, but I managed to pass with A's! To anyone reading this it really is not difficult if you just study!

You will likely need to have an ACT score and high school diploma to apply to most colleges, but you will have to research that for your specific school. There are radiologic technology programs offered at four-year universities for a bachelor's degree, or a two-year degree at community college's (which is what I am pursuing) for an associates in applied science degree.
@JuliaKristine4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I took the ACT in high school

My program earned me a bachelors degree! I went through 1 year of prerequisites and 3 years in the program. It was 2 years focused on X-ray, and then the last year was a modality (mine was MRI). I stayed in X-ray clinic once a week, and the rest of the week we had MRI clinic. The University of Iowa offers an online AS to BS degree if you were interested in furthering your degree in MR, CT or CVI! Otherwise there are always jobs out there that offer cross training!

@Soychica132 жыл бұрын
Im stuck in between going to the army like you did or just do community college to become x ray tech. Was it more difficult since they’re cramming in more material in a shorter period of time? Did you have to do the same pre requisites?
@bethanyrose90262 жыл бұрын
@@Soychica13 this is late and a little different than your question. I was in the air force and became an ultrasound technician rather than mri/xray I would definitely have chosen radiology in the air force if I could go back though haha But I liked having the hands on experience the job gives through the military. Tech school was definitely tough because we had to learn so much so fast, but I definitely found it to be worth it. I like having the military experience background and I was able to immediately get a job working for the VA even before getting registered, since they knew me and knew that I could do the job already. Really depends on what path you want to take though. Army is probably a good bit different than air force and physically also, you definitely have to be even more fit. (If thats a concern for you)

Pre-requisites are classes you have to take before applying to the program. Some programs do an interview process, letters of recommendation, and shadow experience. However, my program was solely based on grades of pre-req classes. If you're thinking of going into management, go the BS route. Otherwise, technologists with an AAS degree vs. BS degree make the exact same amount

I'm ocd lol, I'm someone who likes to study steps over and over again. The thought of going to clinical and them just throwing me to the wolves without much memorization freaks me out a bit.

Every program is different, but my program didn't give me a skills book to bring to clinical. I learned it based on studying the material from my Bontrager textbook and physically positioning patients at clinical! My book did come with a pocketbook, however, we weren't allowed to have that out around patients. It's moreso just for reference when you have downtime. You'll do great! Don't sweat it :)

hmmm! Have you tried doing a google search of "*your state name* radiologic technology schools"? Either that, or search your neighboring states! Majority of the time, there are programs through technical/community colleges!

Julia Kristine I'll try that. Thank you☺.

Very helpful! What do you know about Dosimetry? Is that something you see yourself pursuing down the line? :)

I'm unfamiliar with dosimetry, but I'm definitely open to explore different paths after I've graduated!

My prerequisites for rad tech are algebra, English 1 or 2, anatomy and physiology 1, psychology or sociology, medical terminology and medical assisting. Just a bit different!

thank you for commenting this!

This isn’t the case for all programs. Medical assisting is generally not needed.

Thank you great video, you’re convincing me to not be afraid I keep switching my majors Rad tech is one of them. Something that put me off some time a go was the radiation exposure in the room someone talked about it in their video I’m gonna try to find it, would you say it’s safe and nothing to worry about?
@JuliaKristine4 жыл бұрын
Your radiation dosage is monitored by a dosimeter that you wear at your collar at all times, and we take precautions to protect ourselves by wearing lead aprons if we're going to be directly in the room or in fluoroscopy/surgery with the c-arm. But to answer your question, yes it is a safe profession.

I was so excited about this program last only 2 years, but now i feel downs knowing that I need so many prerequisites classes before starts. Im 42, Im an immigrant and I dont have much time. I really need something that I can graduate in 2 years 😓
@user-gq1if3pl3vАй бұрын
You still can, this just sounds like an excuse. It’s the fall semester, you can start your prerequisites right now as this is the application year. You won’t start anyways until the following year. Take this entire year and do the prerequisites, most programs only require 2semesters of Anatomy, a psych, math and general ed course. You can do it, you’re making excuses.

Hi Julia☺️ your videos are soo helpful and informative! I applied to the Radiology program at a nearby community college, and just found out I have an interview next week! My question is did you have an interview process for your program, and if so, do you have any tips on standing out and gaining admission? A more specific question I have would be did you bring any documents such as a resume with you to your interview? Hoping you see this!! Thank you in advance either way 🥰
@JuliaKristine5 жыл бұрын
Hi Haley! I mentioned in this video that I did not have an interview process as my program was solely based on grades. My advice for an interview would be to go into it as if it's an actual job interview. Possibly look up nursing school interview questions to prepare because they may be similar! I'm unsure if it's necessary to bring a resume, but it wouldn't hurt! Best of luck!

Hi!! Thank you so much for making this. I just subscribed! I've been going crazy trying to figure out what I want to do. My situation is a bit unique I guess. I'm half American half from the middle east and unfortunately my father did not put me in school as a child long story. I recently got my GED at the age of 27. I have 2 young kids and I'm afraid of school because I don't have much support with them. Do you have moms in your class? Do you think this would be a fun job or a boring one? Sorry for the silly question. I need to learn so much more about this. I always pictured x ray jobs just basically being in a room most of the time. You made it sound much more apealing. I want to get into the medical field so bad. But be worth the schooling
@JuliaKristine5 жыл бұрын
That’s so great that you’re pursuing an education while supporting your kids! I absolutely respect you. We did have one single mother in our class, but she did drop the program (I’m not sure why!) and then we have a guy in our class who has four kids! It’s definitely do-able if you figure out the right flow! I personally feel that it’s fun - but it also requires a lot of critical thinking, and it’s fast-paced (you’re on your feet running around all day on) you get to go on portable x-rays, into surgery, fluoroscopy, etc. If you decide to work in a clinic setting (ex. walk-in clinic), it may be slower paced and you’ll likely be in the exam room all day. I absolutely love the field and wouldn’t choose anything differently. It’s challenging, yet so rewarding!

Thank you so much for these videos. I struggled so hard with my gen Ed’s and I find out in April if I get into the program. I am so excited but I am scared I will become stressed and overwhelmed. Any tips?

That’s so exciting! Just remind yourself that it’s out of your hands until you hear your admission results! Take this time to relax and do things for yourself ☺️ The unknown is always scary, but I promise… if I made it through the program, so can you! 🤍 As for when you get accepted and have program-related questions, reach out! I’d be so happy to try and answer any questions!

In my program, anything under a 80% was an F. Every program is different, but they all have the goal of getting your ready for your Boards. I just passed my test with a 90.

Hey girl, can you upload a video on the work load of x ray school? I start this upcoming fall and I watched a video of a girl who basically cried the entire video of how hard it was and I’m feeling nervous now 🙄
@JuliaKristine4 жыл бұрын
I probably won't do a video on it since there really isn't much to mention! Stress related to the workload is pretty subjective, so it will be different for every person! Everyone handles/tolerates stress differently. It's honestly not that bad though! Of course everyone will have days where they're overwhelmed/stressed and want to cry, but that's literally a given with any medical-based program! I wouldn't stress about it :)

I'm thinking of going into Xray, I'm finishing my associates this year and would only need one class class to enter into the program. I currently work in a hospital for Transport so I'm around the environment everyday and have been the last 6 years. So I'm trying to figure out which area I want to go into, I would love to do Ultrasound but the schools around me are super expensive even though I get reimbursement through my job, but I would also not be able to work while I would do that program, and I have bills to pay lol.

If I took classes last year (bio and English) but I dropped both classes. Is there still a chance for me to retake those classes with a better grade and get accepted? Or the D/F completely would disqualify me from the program you went to?
