It's great to hear this broadcast again after so many years and especially the Fricker. This is a highly underrated work, which has a haunting, pensive and obsessional quality about it. Paseo should be played much more.

Something about the players of that generation...bream, Williams, segovia. Maybe it was the instruments, maybe their technique, but they had something that few if any players today have, a quality to their playing and sound that I just don't hear anymore. A beauty and sonority, almost a softness to their touch when plucking the strings.

I bet the fact that they were not using carbon strings, often favored by a lot of modern players, and the choice of incredible instruments they were using like Fleta, Romanillos, Hauser, etc....contributes to the beauty and sonority of their touch that you notice.

Segovia was 40 years older than Bream, hardly the same generation. But I agree about the uniqueness.

No, no, It was the deepness, the poetry of the old Masters... Not the acrobatian súper academichal of nowadays... @@LeonardoGarciaguitar

It's a good thing Julian didn't meet the composer at Dollar Store Mini-Mall.
