My now deceased elderly aunt was very anti German but unbeknown to me at the time. The irony was her Father's family was from Germany. I think she ( and my mother) were in denial.

My wife's grandmother was a first-generation Sicilian/Italian-American. She always went on about how people always thought she looked very Irish, because she was so light-complected, when she was very olive skinned. She would actually get annoyed at her son (my father-in-law) for going outside and getting dark. She would make comments like "you look like a Rabbi!" or when we were in Mexico, "They're gonna detain you, if you don't wear sunblock". I think denial is a river that many of our ancestors spent time on!

The post war anti German sentiment in the UK has always confused me, considering that the British royal family are German !!!!! And after the Romans left the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons during the great Germanic migration left such a lasting impact !!!!!!! Oh and did I mention English is a ancient Germanic language !!!!!!! Very confusing !!!

@@nutcracker2916 Sure but they've been breeding British born in for generations and have always lived here and don't identify with Germany anymore. Not for 100 years. So what does "they're german" even mean anymore? Most people will have at least one "foreigner" in their family tree, if that makes them foreign then everyone is foreign and it becomes meaningless. Think, people

Trier is beautiful. Looks like a lot of the historic buildings escaped the devastation of war. The kid seems to be clueless that it began as a Roman town & his roots could be Roman, too. Does anyone else see his face as a Roman sculpture? Maybe he's a descendant of Emperor Constantine. 😏

The Prussians weren’t glamorous. But most people of Trier (or other areas of the Rhineland that were in Prussian control) were not Prussians, they went back and were Germans before Prussia and Prussians were actually German (originally the Prussians were a Baltic people like the Lithuanians & Latvians who were conquered by Germans and co-opted their name - as well as their lands)
