America needs to calm down with these "prodigy" players. Just about every year there's one kid in High School or College that is "the next big thing". If it's not basketball, it's NFL it's baseball. But these kids rarely translate a dominant High School career into a dominant NBA career. Zion Williamson is the latest example.

One of the main issues of Julian Newman is not his height or his father… It was basically that he never learned how to be a true point guard. Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues was shorter than Julian Newman by standing 5’3, and he played 14 years in the NBA against some of the greatest basketball athletes of that time(The Jordan era) when the league was way more physical than it is now. Besides having good ball-handling skills, Muggsy had quickness, strength, speed, good court vision, defense, a good playmaker & scorer when needed, a high level of basketball IQ, a great passer, could run an offense, could start the break within seconds, got his players involved to score, a great teammate, leadership skills and most importantly, Point Guard IQ… Julian Newman has none of this. Julian's father just worked him out, took him through drills, and exercise routines… but never taught him or had the knowledge of how to train Julian be a real Point Guard. Julian Newmen is more of a “Showman”, then an actual professional basketball Point Guard. He’s more so focused on scoring and putting on a show then actually applying the skills & IQ in order to be a true point guard. I honestly feel that streetball leagues or Sports entertainment like the “Harlem Globetrotters“ will be more of a nitch for him rather than playing professional basketball.
@davidsims91623 сағат бұрын
Yup spot on. I was thinking the same thing. He was pretty much a shooting guard. Like way worse version of Allen iverson
@Will00823 сағат бұрын
@ Exactly. It’s like he always tried to force himself to do things on the court that his height & physical stature wouldn’t allow him to successfully accomplish. If he learned basic Point Guard IQ instead of his father giving him free rein to do whatever he wanted, he would’ve been a much better basketball player, and could be more utilized for a team.
@Vfe970Ай бұрын
This is an unfair comparison. People try to compare him and assist to the NBA players. They were great basketball players they were not professional level so comparing them against professionals are calling them failed professionals because of what people expected to them at 10 years old is absolutely ridiculous as a bunch of kids in high school and they don’t make the pros and you don’t call them washed up failed professional basketball players

Hating? Telling the truth is not “Hating“. Gilbert was absolutely right when he said that Julian Newman had no real competition, even at 11 years old. We all know Julian’s his father coached all the teams at his schools, and allowed him to take all of those unnecessary BAD shots just to get stats! And when Julian played real TOP LEVEL competition against highly high school recruited players, he would get DEMOLISHED! And Gilbert Arenas was right again! Julian Newman didn’t grow and he literally was straining his body trying to do things on a basketball court that his height wouldn’t allow him to do successfully because he is more of a “Internet Showman” who was never taught real Point Guard IQ properly to get him recruited by a D1 university. How is that “Hating”? It’s just hard truth. But, l do hope that Julian will separate from his father respectfully one day and discover his own route and purpose to create his own success.
