They really are a couple of sorts--a couple of friends, it is true--but it's been going on for a long time, and they obviously love each other, not as Julie loves Blake (he is still with us, i trust?), but it's a hell of a big love going on there between these two marvelous women. Does our hearts good just to look at them, never mind listen to them speak or sing together or to see them look at each other. Years of friendship, no sinking ship in sight.

@Seyahhsod I believe this was in the early 2000's, a few years after Julie's surgery. Carol did the "Putting It Together" in 2001, I think. Julie's voice is a lower range but still has that Julie sound.

For all her great years from Studio 33 (renamed the Carol Burnett Studio until CBS re-renamed it the Bob Barker Studio) at Television City in Hollywood, I still can't help forever thinking of Carol as a First Lady of Broadway, somehow more at home at Broadway & 7th Avenue than Hollywood & Vine. Carol captured Hollywood, but she rules New York.

Okay, I'm confused. This would have been AFTER the surgery (which was in 1997). In 1999 I thought Julie couldn't sing. How can she then say her singing voice is shot??

Well it was sort of exaggerated by the press that she lost her voice. But, Julie says, we'll just wait and see.

mgc1022 she lost her soprano range. i mean she can sing yes, but not that high notes.

mgc1022 She's using a very limited amount of her range and you can heard her voice cracking when she goes up. She's also very raspy. You can hear it at 1:05 when she sings 'lovely, absolutely lovely'. I really surprised she sang at the Tony's at all - it would have been very difficult to get up in front of her peers knowing how different her voice was.

She still has got it I think, but she just decided she was not going to sing anymore since people would expect her to be the same as she used to be when she clearly isn’t but she still has a good voice.

@@wotan10950 well it was very righteous of Julie to do that...and then they shouldn't be calling her to present at the Tony's if they were so bothered by it.. infact Julie presented the very next year and she is very kind to put that all behind and attend the Tony's, since that year she has attended it atleast 5 times for presenting various awards and keeps on doing so much for the theater community bcz she truly cares for it...it is very stupid of the organizers to hold a grudge for this long.
