Some of that is because the underlying song from about 12:18 - "it must be him", which I always associate with Vikki Carr - is such a great torch song. Carol of course hams it up for all it's worth, until Julie offers the sugar - that _look_ at 12:55 shows Carol's skill at its best.

Something I never registered-when Julie starts in on “Spoonful of Sugar,” she sort of speak-shout-sings it rather than singing it ordinarily as she’s done the rest of the medley. Anyone who does a credible Julie Andrews impression will do exactly that kind of speak-singing. Which means, I think, that when she sings her own song, Julie is doing an impression of HERSELF!

Lyrics: We're Sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band We hope you will enjoy the show We're Sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band Sit back and let the evening go What would you do if I sang out of tune Would you stand up and walk out on me? Probably Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song and I'll try not to sing out of key (Mm, I get by with a little help from my friends) Sgt pepper's lonely Sgt pepper's lonely (Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends) Sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band (Mm, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends) Sgt pepper's lonely Sgt pepper's lonely Sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band Sgt pepper's lonely hearts And the beat goes on (I dig rock n' roll music) the beat goes on (And I love to get the chance to play) And the beat goes on (I think it's about the happiest sound goin' down today) the beat goes on The message may not move me or mean a great deal to me But hey, it feels so groovy to say Everybody's talking at me I don't hear a word they're saying Only the echos of my mind People stopping staring I can't see their faces Only the shadows of their eyes It's knowing that my door is always open and your path is free to walk That makes you tend to leave your sleepin' bag Rolled up and stashed behind my couch And the Wichita lineman is still on the line And it's knowing I'm not shackled By forgotten words and bonds And the ink stains that are dried upon some line And he wakes up in the morning With his hair down in his eyes And he says hi That keeps you in the backroads By the rivers of my memory That keeps you ever gentle on my mind And if that's not loving me Then all I've got to say God didn't make little green apples And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime And when myself is feeling low I think about your face aglow to ease my mind And honey I love you And I'm being good (We've looked at love from both sides now) And I'd love to be with you If only I could If the world should stop revolving Spinning slowly down to die I'd spend the end with you And when the world was through Then one by one the stars would all go out Then you and I would simply fly away You and I For we can fly Up and away In a beautiful, beautiful balloon Do you know the way to San Jose? I'm leaving on a jet plane (I've been away so long, I may go on and lose my way) Don't know when I'll be back again By the time I get to Phoenix He'll be downtown waiting for you tonight Downtown waiting for you tonight (Downtown where all the lights are bright) Downtown everything's waiting for- Slow down you move too fast You gotta make the morning last Just kickin' down the cobble stone Looking for fun and feelin' Sunny Yesterday my life was filled with rain (Raindrops keep fallin' on my head) Sunny You smiled at me and really eased the pain. (But that doesn't mean my eyes would soon be turnin' red) Cryin's not for me 'cause You've made me so very happy I'm so glad you came into my life Tall and tan and young and handsome The boy from Ipanema goes awalkin' And when he passes each girl he passes goes 'ohhhh' You see this girl This girl's in love with you Hey there, Georgy girl Hello Dolly! Well, hello Dolly! Can you tell me how to get how to get to Sesame Street Sesame Street Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way Two drifters, off to see the world There's such a lot of world to see We're after the same rainbow's end Look at all the lonely people People who need people Ah, look at all the lonely people Where do they all belong? What the world needs now is love, sweet love That's the only thing that there's just too little of What the world needs now is love, sweet love No, not just for some, but for everyone Yes, for everyone come together right now Oh, put your hand in the hand of the man who stilled the water Put your hand in the hand of the man who calmed the sea Take a look at yourself And you can look at others differently By puttin' your hand in the hand of the man from Galilee Let it be, let it be Let it be, let it be Whisper words of wisdom Let it be Let it be, let it be Let it be, let it be There will be an answer Let it be And when I die (We shall overcome) And when I'm gone (We shall overcome) There'll be, one child born (We shall overcome, some day) In the world to carry on To carry on The is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius The Age of Aquarius Aquarius! Aquarius! Aquarius! Aquarius! The only one who could ever reach me Was the son of a preacher man And the only one who could ever reach me Was the son of a preacher man Oh, he was!? Yes, he was! That rat! That dirty rotten- Woah! What kind of fool am I Who never fell (What do you get when you fall in love?) In love (A guy with a pin to burst your bubble) What's it all about, Alfie What now, my love Now that you've left me How can I live (Well, I think I'm goin' out of my head) For another day (Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head over you) Born free and life is worth living But only worth living If you're born free! Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo Bee-doo-bee-doo-bee Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo Bee-doo-bee-doo-bee Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo Bee-doo-bee-doo-bee How long does it last? Can love be measured by the hours in a day? I have no answers now but this much I can say, oh! I know I'll need him till the stars all burn away And he'll be there Oh, please be him Oh God, dear God, it must be him But it's not him, and then I die Uh.. keep it, dear Again I die! Now, now, Carol dear, pull yourself together It's just a song! I mean, remember- Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down The medicine go down Medicine go down Just a spoonful of sugar (Oh, shut up!) Helps the medicine go down What goes up must come down Spinnin' wheel got to go 'round Talkin' 'bout your troubles it's a cryin' sin Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel spin Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel turn Catch a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride Is that all there is? Is that all there is? If that's all there is, my friends Then let's keep dancing Let's break out the booze and have a ball If that's all That's all We're all Sgt Pepper's lonely hearts club band

Peter Hallat, I have 9 years on you. I was born in 1952. I was a teenager during the 1960's, there was so much beautiful pop music written during that decade. I was also "out of the closet" and PROUDLY, OPENLY GAY BEFORE WHILE I WAS IN JR. & SR. HIGH SCHOOL, YEARS BEFORE THE STONEWALL RIOTS IN NYC. STILL AM, AND I REJOICED AT THE 2015 SCOTUS DECISION WHICH INCIDENTALLY CAME ON THE EXACT 46TH ANNIVERSARY OF STONEWALL.

William Rice that’s so inspirational to younger viewers with old souls! I can’t even begin to process your resilience in such a time of prejudice. it’s even difficult to be accepted now. good for you sir!
