Mary Jenner - Her voice was never underrated. When she hit Broadway, the critics and more importantly the real music men, like Lerner & Loewe and Rodgers & Hammerstein immediately recognised her star quality. She became unfashionable as society changed but 45 years on the quality still shines through.

mlCH08 - Unfashionable, as in the big budget musicals became unfashionable. Julie poured her energy into Star! only to be met with faint praise, Darling Lili was a mess, her husband's doing not hers. She displayed her all round talents on her Emmy winning TV series only for it to be scheduled at stupid times of the day and dropped. She wasn't doing anything wrong but public taste was going through a sour mood.

Cant really compare with Julie, because Julie is a classically trained coloratura musician, with perfect pitch. It was said that her voice could tune a piano and ears pick up the slightest wrong in pitch in any musician in the orchestra pit.

Class, elegance, and beauty perfectly describe Julie Andrews, not the nasty skank which is Barbara Streisand. Julie Andrews had an absolutely beautiful singing voice before surgery destroyed it. While Barbara Streisand does have a very nice singing voice if she's singing a song in super-slow tempo, the superstar simply can't sing outside of a very tiny range/niche. Also, the woman is selfish, shallow, and empty on the inside and simply has no soul.

Sadly, Julie needed surgery which effected her vocal chords and with deep sadness, she lost her ability to sing. I have heard Julie Andrews speak of this, she went through a great mourning period for the loss of her voice. This is why Lady Gaga sang the songs from "The Sound of Music" at the Oscars.
