Incredible. Takes 3 steps out and sings brilliantly. It's so on pitch and sounds so sweet. The orchestration is perfect. And the camera close up is stunning. Bravo~!!!
@Shamsithaca Жыл бұрын
What I love about this version of hers, is that she's singing live, the camera is up close to her face from the lowest note to the highest note and you can see how extremely relaxed and pleasant she looks, high note or not...the real way of singing. Like all the greatest singers from Callas to Sutherland, Pavarotti and Julie, they all have amazingly pretty mouth posture, rounded, relaxed and a slight head-tilt back when the notes are higher. I bet they all did it mostly subconsciously, that's how good they were. These days pop stars sing a whole octave below and they look like its the end of their life. 1:59 min mark that smile!!

Yep she probably could have handled the cockney accent better too. I love Audrey Hepburn, but that accent she did was almost as bad as Dick Van Dyke's in Mary Poppins.

At 0:16 min mark, she sounds simply like a high quality bell. That color, clarity and power at 2:07 min mark. It sounds smooth, clean and so healthy. No need for mikes in your face, or artificial amplification, and other sound changes. Lets see if Adele, Gaga or the likes can attempt anything remotely as beautiful as this, in this key.

The movie snub allowed her to be in Mary Poppins and essentially sweep award season. So all's well that ends well. It's a truth generally acknowledged that when you cast a musical, do it with people who can sing.

I preferred Audrey Hepburn as an actress and who had to look stunning at the Ball.....and by golly she certainly was! I don't think Julie Andrews, although chocolate-box pretty when young and made up, could hold a candle to Audrey Hepburn in that department though. And talking of scores, I much prefer Marni Nixon's singing. She was absolutely top notch for her precision of lip syncing, her cadence to sound like the actress she was dubbing and the majesty of voice. A truly wonderful singer in her own right and it attests to her professionalism and sheer talent that audiences still have to ask if the 'star' was singing or not. She sang for lots of other stars too, taking on their inflections of speech also. I know of one film in which she did sing and act under her own name; her acting as accomplished as her voice talent. Funnily enough, it starred Julie Andrews too - as the nun/nanny to the 'von Trapp' children in 'The Sound of Music'! Marni played a nun also and sang 'How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria' with other nuns in the courtyard of the Mother House convent. Marni was also a very good looking blonde! Grrr!😄
