I heard about her in the 60's from my Beatle crazed aunt! I became a Beatle Fan and just rediscovered Julie! She is awesome! What did i know when i was 9 years old! She should have been as famous as Streisand!

Thank you for posting this. I first heard "Johnny One Note" on her "Wild and Wonderful Julie Budd" album. It was a favorite. My album has been gone for a long time now, but now I have this recording. Many thanks. And I agree, I think the Sullivan performance was even better than the album recording.

Great introduction to American audiences, she did well on Broadway. I remember first seeing her on Disney's :The Devil and Max Devlin" in the late 70's and she sang well in that movie also. Thanks for sharing, have a nice day!

I don't believe the industry would allow two Barbra Streisand's to be massively successful. Julie looked and sounded more like Barbra than even Barbra's own sister, Roslyn Kind.

You may be right. I remember when Julie came up she was billed as the next Streisand even though her singing technique and vocal range were somewhat different. She got a lot of valuable TV exposure and should have been a monster of a singing star. She had a big, big voice and shared some of Streisand's traits (she was also a nice Jewish girl from Brooklyn) and but she seemed to fade after so many years.

The comparisons with Streisand are to be expected at times, HOWEVER... Julie has a voice that is uniquely her own. Sometimes she sings semi-operatic. A delightful young lady who should have been a bigger success. The problem? Who would want to produce another talent that would always remind people of Barbra?

Although he meant well it was nonetheless a faux pas on Sullivan's part to have compared her to Streisand on nationaltelevision. When attempting to establish oneself at the age 14 this was NOT a compliment but a detriment, nonetheless it happened to Budd all the time on every variety show, when in reality the parallels are limited though I suppose inevitable. 2 Jewish girls from Brooklyn with big belty voices. So what! To my ear they really sounded nothing alike, Streisand being the far greater vocal talent.

That was on the Richard Rodgers tribute show the following year. Johnny held that one note continuously for the duration of the song while the Lennon Sisters sang the verses.

Julie is fantastic with a talent on par to Barbra Streisand. It’s a shame that Julie and Barbra’s sister Roslyn Kind were always compared to Barbra. There are a lot of similarities but alas Barbra came first and garnered all the attention and major success.
