Thank you VERY much for sharing this Kim Criswell gem with us. I was fortunate to have seen her perform at the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra concerts at the Petrillo Music Shell in Chicago in her pristine prime (1988-1991), in concert performances of the scores to ANYTHING GOES, SUNNY, DUBARRY WAS A LADY, and SOMETHING FOR THE BOYS, conducted by John McGlinn. And she was outstanding at all four pairs of concerts!!!!!

Yes!!! I was IN the DuBarry Was A Lady concert!! I was a soprano in the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, and it was crazy fun backing up Kim Criswell!! She was SO great. Also starred the very young and not all that well-known (at the time) Rebecca Luker! And David Garrison was great too. Were you there the night that lake flies descended on the Chicago lake-front? We were inhaling the tiny flies, and it was awful--we could barely breathe... David Garrison had the line "Send in the guards!"... and he ad-libbed "AND SEND AN EXTERMINATOR!!" I felt bad for the leads having to sing in such odd conditions, but they were still fantastic!

@@anneodland502 I was, indeed, there that evening. I was the chief usher of the Andy Frain ushering crew at Petrillo Music Shell (the tall, lean guy wearing the white hat) every summer from 1982 through 1991 - so I got paid to help maintain order at the concerts, with my enjoyment of almost all of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra (classical and "pop" alike) being a nice added "perk" which went with the job.
