I too am working through my pantry and freezer making room for the next growing season. I always tell my daughters to shop their pantry before going to the store. There’s always something to make! I find myself still canning though. Broth from chicken and beef bones for my pantry shelves. I also make a lot of quick breads. Recently I have been making a pumpkin bread recipe but substituting fig butter in the place of pumpkin. It is so delicious! Your meals look so delicious and I love the peaceful,calming videos you present us. Have a blessed week!

I just love your videos and the coziness of your home. It's such a peaceful looking home. I am curious as to how that pasta dish got the name chop suey? I guess I have been born and raised in Hawaii and we have so many different cultures and cuisine here. In Hawaii, chop suey is an Asian dish with meats and veggies, and sometimes eggs, stir fried with Asian seasonings. I was surprised to find out that other parts of the country have their own versions of chop suey. It looks so comforting and the kind of food you want to eat on a cold night.
@JulieKeeperofMyHome

Thank you! I'm not sure how it got its name either, although Google would probably know. 🤔 The chop suey is SO GOOD! We had it the next day for lunch, and on the next day, we pan-fried it with a side of toasted homemade bread covered in homemade butter. 😃

I love your videos with the cook stove. Is it hard to figure out the time for baking things? Does the temperature change much? Less wood or just coals when baking? I would love an informative video on how you use it! I love open fire,hearth and cook stove cooking.Also the meal and banana bread looked so good.😋
@JulieKeeperofMyHome
@JulieKeeperofMyHome 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Jennifer! The bake time is probably the hardest part of cooking in the cook stove. The temperature does fluctuate, so we have to constantly monitor the fire in order to get a somewhat consistent bake time. More wood is best because you want the temperature high enough to bake. Although I have found that keeping the temperature down about 25* lower that what the recipe calls for is best. Of course, I do have to rotate whatever is in the oven, as well. So many variables. My husband and I will definitely add your request to our list! 😊

Thank you for asking! We save pan drippings from roasts, baked chicken, or similar dishes. I like to jar the drippings up and store them in the freezer to use in soups, stews, or other dishes that need flavoring. I don't process these jars in a canner. I just like using the jars, as they are most convenient for me. You just need to be sure to leave a couple of inches of head space, as the contents will expand as it freezes. We also have some cans of lemonade and pina colada for a summer refresher or smoothie. Thank you for stopping by! 😊

@@JulieKeeperofMyHome Thanks for explaining - I completely forgot about juice concentrate coming in can's. Living alone I sometimes have a small number of drippings and actually feel bad about tossing them. Never thought to bottle it up or even use a freezer bag. You've changed my life with that useful information. 😁
@JulieKeeperofMyHome

I love it when someone learns something new! If you don't have a lot of drippings, you can always use an ice cube tray to collect and freeze them. Once frozen, just add them to a jar or ziploc and store them in the freezer until you need it!

Hello there! I like to keep a snack size baggie in my crisco can, but not to keep it covered. I'm just storing it in there until next time I need to grease a pan. Maybe that's what your mom was doing, as well? I should also mention that my crisco can is filled with lard, not shortening. I stopped buying crisco a few years ago but kept my last can for convenient storage. We render pork fat into lard and use that now. It's much healthier. I should have mentioned that, probably. Thank you for asking! There isn't really a specific recipe, just a list of ingredients, which we show in the video. That's the thing about many of the dishes we make. We are "a pinch of this, and a dash of that" kind of cooks. My husband says a box of macaroni noodles, a pound of ground beef, a pound of Italian sausage, 2-3 cans of tomato soup, 2 cans of diced tomatoes, 1 diced bell pepper, 1 large sliced onion, 1 small jar mushrooms (opt), Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and sometimes we add parmesan, shredded cheddar, or shredded mozzarella. Depends on what we have. I hope this helps. As far as the cast iron skillet, we purchased it at an antique store a few years ago. It came with a wonderful dome lid, too! I believe we paid $45. Have a great week!

Oh, gosh. I've had these ones for so many years. Some belonged to my mother in law. I'm going to say probably Amazon. Here's a link for you.... www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Nonstick-Carbon-Steel-Bread/dp/B073P52PPR/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_ffob_sspa?adgrpid=51489697570&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kSTU8khjOt5yR8IN5Ii-XOYH3qNu0wbsf6AsXO3B6WSemMc6CZ_0osLbwjcxNnHQH8nuuqKTWJLyg3mMH8Pl53G3uvg10O6FdAwiJg5En9kxTz-OD44nzNzfzDwcTdplOWfWkwGHbVjOvmHijvLjF8UntNQTfdOwcGzg320rVstNWETupMnotwY0ZQsOfRyp8QB4H1kPLTXuRNg8RR8vdA.qur9g3pd59w-Cc_QRIecgFlZxzdKvtb1pL-BEKvjdMg&dib_tag=se&hvadid=557385986297&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9058095&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=8357998546043613479&hvtargid=kwd-297694956229&hydadcr=14891_13353783&keywords=bread+loaf+pans&qid=1717150669&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

That an Amish princess cook stove?

Yes! We had been using a Queen Atlantic cook stove for years, but it was not very efficient. We absolutely loved the character of it, but really needed something that was going to hold a fire longer than 2 hours. Our Amish friends convinced us to get a Pioneer Princess. ❤

Where are the recipes? I don't see any listing for them in the description, and you don't give amounts or say what you are using.

Thank you for your suggestion. ❤

I'm glad another man can cook, my husband is a good cook and so was all my family's husbands. If your man can't cook, then he would have to make himself a sandwich.

That serrated knife is NOT it 😂 He would have better chopping skills if he utilized a proper knife and was taught how to use it .

For whatever reason, that is our favorite knife to use. Crazy, I know!You will notice we do use a real proper chefs knife in some of the other videos, though. 😁
