@@JulieKhuu my tiny house/bardo Kitchen. I don’t want any cabinets. Black steel industrial open shelving is what I’m going for. You give so much information.

I appreciate that your opinions aren’t based out of snobbery, but love. You’re not arrogant. (P.S. 3 cheers for animal rescues.)

Great point about functional tables surfaces near each chair. I’m really uncomfortable in homes where there’s no obvious place to put down a drink, or worse, where people are using the floor for that purpose.

Just yesterday I got rid of two desks and an office chair. Mostly because kids damaged them but also both desks are wobbly and the office chair doesn't fit under the desk because of the armrests. Also I realized that a slim desk would fit in the hallway a lot better. Yesterday I walked around the house and moved all the furniture that looked out of place and now every room looks good. I am about to have a baby so it might not last that long but I am still happy.

Oh yeah! I once pushed my 3 seater sofa against the only wall it would fit on in a walkway to cover the timber floor. Even as an introvert I felt like I was being pushed out of the lounge and although it gave me more space in the centre of the small/medium lounge room I found I didn’t need that space and I was too far from the coffee table and TV.

Ok, ok...many good points! But my slightly "too small" family room rug... Red with Multicolor Indented Dots"..in the only size available at the time...STILL Sparks Joy in the room where I spend the most time, amid Navy + Multiple Wood tones+ Black accessories! Have searched for more "appropriate" sized replacement...but as yet nothing brings same degree of delight!

I'm so glad I measured my space for a couch, but I didn't think about the front door space. Delivery team had to take the couch out of the box but managed to get it in the doorway.

One bug bear in my lounge is that it has a timber floor walk way on 2 sides of it that lead to the entry, hall, kitchen and dining room. If you come out of the carpeted hallway and walk straight ahead you have to shift left 12” to walk fully on the floor instead of having one foot on the carpeted area of the lounge (with the plastic trim on the edge) and one foot on the timber. The other part of the timber walkway to the entry is narrower at about 27” to the carpeted area so you still need to walk on both especially if you’re carrying stuff and need to keep away from the wall. The carpeted area is higher than the floor.

Julie, where did you source that beautiful artwork in your office space?
@HappyHarryX57 сағат бұрын
My kitchen is on the smaller side and the entry to it is only the width of a door but it didn’t stop the builder putting the pantry with 2 half width doors on the left of the entry so you can’t go in there if someone’s at the pantry. The fridge is on the other side of the entry facing into the kitchen so you still have to be careful entering the kitchen. Even living by myself I don’t get a good feeling having 2 of the most important parts of the kitchen opening into that entry.

My biggest design mistake, and I’ve been making it for decades, is shopping without my “style” in mind! I just don’t incorporate styles well. It’s just a mish-mash! Of course, if I knew what my “style” even is, it would be helpful! I also if this mindset going back to childhood of use what you have if it’s not broken. I had a Litton huge microwave for19 years, which I still used until my daughter was grown and bought me a new much smaller one! Ditto on hanging onto a couch and lamps that I loved! Still regret getting rid of those lamps as they are now back in style!

In a previous Feng Shui purge I got rid of all my antique brass candelabras cuz the girls were still little and I don’t remember the last time I lit a real candle in my house. Years of collecting and in one fell swoop- donated! 🙈 Now I’m kinda kicking myself. But I’m totally with you- everything comes back in style/ there’s a time and season for everything. Real question is- do you have space for it? (Both literally and figuratively). Thanks for tuning in Jeanne-Marie! Happy Sunday! ☀️

Matching orange timber floors and TnG half way up the wall with the same orange cabinetry with TnG centres was too much for me. My kitchen looks so much better with a light neutral cabinet colour and black kick boards underneath. Love the TnG now being white in the other rooms. To pile on to it, my ex thought it was good to get all matching furniture to match the wood tone. It was a sea of orangey brown. It made me feel unalive.

What I would’ve changed is just buying the best of the bad bunch furniture instead of waiting. I had to get stuff when the ex said we could as he would’ve spent the money on himself in an instant and would’ve been told I had the opportunity and didn’t want to. Gaslighting was his thing and I would’ve have been laughed at. Living in one of the most remote areas of Australia pre-internet didn’t help. Now I’m free put up happy artwork I’ve done and take control of my home and choices.
