Just a little tip for your Tombow dual tip markers, if you add a piece of clear tape over the color numbers it will prevent the number from scratching off. I can’t remember where I saw this little trick but it does help. ♥️

I've been planning my whole life, been part of the planner community for 20 years, and a Hobonichi user (Cousin and Weeks) for about 6 years. When I saw this title, my first thought was "the only must have is the planner," but this video is excellent. You are 100% correct about the Tomoe River Paper being unique (which is why I love my Hobonichis). Although someone can start with just a ballpoint pen, the items you mentioned bring beauty to the planner to keep you motivated. Thank you for sharing, Julie. :)

Always a pleasure, I have found that zig dot markers are much lighter on the Tomoe paper except that black and the navy. Also as you pointed out writing on the pencil board directly under the page is not great. I have settled on my sharpies and paper-mate flairs no board required and no bleed through.❤

I am a Hobonichi convert! My current fountain pen that I take with me is a Platinum Preppy with a fine nib. Super cheap on Jet Pens and works really well. Plus, I won't flip out if I loose it. Took my Vanishing Point with me one day, and promptly dropped it point down. Replacement nibs for those are not cheap.

ME WHEN I FOUND OUT HOW MUCH FOUNTAIN PENS COST = lol I have yet to try the Vanishing Point! But that doesn't stop me from having my share of Kaweco and Sailor! Thanks so much for keeping me company while I set up my weeks :) I think I may need to ask for a pencil board for my bday...

The only thing you need to start planning in your hobonichi is a pen or pencil. Anything else is just extra. That doesn't mean this video isn't lovely or these tips won't help. It's just a comment saying if you can't afford to keep up with the planner community then you shouldn't feel pressured too. All you need is a pen
@jodycameron-roy2544 Жыл бұрын
100% this. It can be so intimidating to think you need to invest so much.
@sabsk122 Жыл бұрын
@jodycameron-roy2544 it really is intimidating and sometimes discouraging because you just might not be artistic enough like the many wonderful people in the planner community. I can't even write semi neatly so i always feel inferior but my planner is for me and I've learned to accept that not every planner is beautiful but every planner deserves to be used
@jennifer28678 ай бұрын
Totally agree. I started with a pen and some old highlighters. I’m glad I started that way because it made the whole thing feel very low stakes.

Love the VP, you don't need a converter you can refill the cartridges with a blunt tip syringe (Amazon) and keep it moving. I use that method for my two decimo's never used a converter. Love the clicking. I have a fine and an ef, great pen.

Hint for washi with TRP that might be easier than cutting on a mat… use either a sharp edge ruler or a small hobby knife (pencil size), lay the washi and then press edge on washi and pull up the washi and it should break cleanly. Also King Jim Kitty washi precut strips are amazing!

I started writing with the Pentel Clena in my Hobonichi at the beginning of last year. Loved it. Then I bought the Pilot Kakuno in August. I love the way the fountain pen glides over the paper. This year, I decided you use both. The Pentel in my weekly section and the Pilot in my daily.

Thanks for sharing about the BRUSHABLES vs Tombow. I have been thinking that the Tombow brush tip has been a bit too large for my newbie self. A firmer tip like Tombow's hard tip Fudenosuke pen is good. I prefer it over the soft tip too! ^^

What is your recommendation for a clear cover for the Cousin?
@sambbbb2 жыл бұрын
Julie, in place of a converter for your VP you can get a cheap ink syringe and just rinse & refill the old Pilot cartridges for much better ink capacity. Usually the VP comes with the CON-40. It may have been hidden in the bottom of the box if you still have it? For your reference, Pilot's converters are notoriously annoying compared to others, but if you like to swap inks frequently or get the technique down you should be alright.
@JuliesPlans2 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you! That’s incredibly helpful!!!!
@JoeyTrejo10 Жыл бұрын
Hi Julie! Just for you to know, although you can totally buy the converter for your Vanishing Point, you can also rinse out and refill cartridges with a blunt syringe. You can get a lot more uses out the the same one that way. If you already have bottled ink, that can give you all kinds of new options to use in your pen.

I got an 8 inch ruler for in my cousin a couple of years ago - because it was getting in my nerves that a 6 inch ruler had to be repositioned for a horizontal line. I also found some pocket stickers like teachers use for student names on desks in elementary school that hold the ruler very nicely inside the cover. I've been without a Cousin the last 2 years (long story) and I finally have one again for this year. Now I just need to find which box contains my Hobo covers or get a clear cover before I ruin my Cousin.
