Did the Subaru Crosstrek cement my relationship

The Subaru Crosstrek may have played a roll in my relationship. I mean, this is probably a ridiculous statement, but I am going to go with it. Just for the purpose of this review, in any case. I am a fan of Subaru. I love how unpretentious they are. And I also love that Subaru fans are truly loyal. This is what was once the XV and is now the Crosstrek.

Was listening on earphones, and the sound of the CVT was quite prevelant. The Crosstrek like the Mitsubishi Outlander are two models I'd rather consider before any of the other "boring" popular models in this segment, in spite of their CVT gearboxes. They are completely underrated.

@@julietmcguirefun fact: subaru arrived in south africa as early as 1992 their first models were the legacy sedan and wagon 4x4 their first showroom opened on Johannesburg cbd on 16 june 1992

Thanks, Juliet! Great review, as always! I personally don't mind the CVT. I recently drove in a friend's 2022 XV, and it was a very pleasant experience. I'm also a big fan of the car's attractive design! The angular taillights and ruggedness... Awesome! 💪 Subaru's customer retention rate speaks volumes regarding their excellent product quality. Go, Subaru! 👏🤩

On our new Outback, at one point the car actually told me to sit up straight in the little message screen. That stuff where it’s watching your eyes is both cool and freaky but wow that was more freaky than anything else! Like fine jeez mother! 😖😂

Bought my XV in 2022 and this car is perfect for me. Great value for money, Very comfortable, safe, fun to drive and I’m always the one rooting for the underdog. Best car I have ever owned as it just gets on with business, no fuss. No wonder they sell over 150 000 of them in the USA annually. I solved small boot matter with a Thule roof box.

Love the idea of the car, the rugged 4 wheel drive, even the look inside and out, but three reasons I would not buy it is the engine, the gearbox and the boot space. Fuel consumption perhaps a fourth.

Great review as always! As a Subaru fan (on my 4th one) I have to say the Crosstrek is overpriced - for another 20K you can get a Forester Sport - more space + more power.

I would buy one in an instant if I could afford it. It is rather shocking though that the Crosstrek comes in at a whopping R120,000 price premium over the outgoing XV. I also have to wonder why right-hand drive countries are left with the 2.0 when in the USA and Canada you can have it with the 2.5 which overcomes that power issue. That CVT has built in shift points which makes it feel more like a regular torque converter automatic. It's considered the best CVT out there. I think your fuel consumption is high because you are always going up hills around Sea Point, Camps Bay and Kloofnek and along winding roads via Clifton.

Look at you, detective ha ha. But yes, it does affect my fuel consumption, which is why I always mention that most peeps will get a lower reading than me.

Solid vehicles. Once you drive one its hard to change brands. Surefooted and safe. New Crosstrek looks great too. Cant believe I am saying this but at R579k, there isnt much that compares in overall value.

Re the cvt, what am I missing ? In terms of established brands, why do they choose to fit their vehicles with this style of transmission if it polarizes folk ? Maybe it's cheap and they simply don't give a toss what folk actually prefer 🤔

CVT gearboxes allow better matching with the engine power and torque curves as the ratios adjust dynamically as engine revs change. Also, once you train your ears and pedal foot, you should get better fuel consumption with sane engine and a standard automatic or DSG. Well, that's the theory.
