Now that you have that Fatboy Slim song stuck in your head, let's delve into the Suzuki Fronx. It is such a great car in terms of value for money. I am not sure you can find better in this segment. But the name is a huge issue for me and for others. Yet Suzuki South Africa feels that people will soon get used to it and that it won't affect sales. What do you think of the name?

Our 2016 Swift 1.4gls auto (4 speed) has now done from new 155 000km, the transmission in traffic and on suburban roads is just fantastic, no issues, and the 2 and L option is actually used often especially on long downhills, just shift to 2 or if you are in low speed shift to L, this will apply engine braking without wearing out your brake pads. Actually living with and using the auto, you never shift into the incorrect gear, also the center display lets you know which gear you in. My own vehicle a 2022 Suzuki Baleno GLX Auto (4 Speed), the 2 and L are not necessary as the transmission auto downshifts down hill, but the heads up display and Centre display also let you know if you are in P R N D 2 or L. The update to the infotainment system will put maps on the heads up display and the Centre gauge screen. The issue you have with the bluetooth, I do get the same if Android Auto is not connected, but it rarely happens, I almost always have android auto connected, and the wireless carplay in the Baleno is just seamless. Remember Jules that the Fronx and Baleno were built to a budget, high enough to not have an AMT but low enough to not have a 6 speed like the Vitara turbo. Honestly think how often you are on an open and free highway with no traffic then make your decision. For me, I would not buy the Fronx until that interior color is changed.

They already have a decent 6sp Auto in the Vitara. Odd they don't use it in their other models.

They use them because they are cheap, reliable and good on fuel. What sucks about them is that paired with this engine youre getting north of 2400rpm on the highway.

@@mindfreeze0838 But it's the same thing with the manual, if you take both the manual and auto to the highway you'll find they're both doing 3000 rpm at 120km/h on the highway even though the auto has 4 gears. If you do mostly city driving, then you can't go wrong with the auto.

For the guys that dont know the balino and the fronx are exactly the same inside, and also the size inside are the same on both, it's just the exterior that is different...My opinion the balino glx is just a beaty, go test drive it!!!!

For what my opinion it is worth, Suzuki is fantastic. Missus on her second after finding it hard to sell the first. Great service at Menlyn Suzuki in Pretoria. Fantastic is the word: value, quality, Japanese design, efficiency, ride quality, affordability....what South Africa needs, some sense. They should bring out the Suzuki Springbok...a winner! ( Only available in Green and Gold).

drove the auto fronx in Cpt, yes its a little loud under hard acceleration but it drives beuatifully, with percet power for what it is. That gear vibe did catch me out also, selecting 2.

I don't know ... I just can't get past that engine. I've tested two Suzuki's in the past 24 months and, while the cars were good, I found that 1.5l engine stupidly underpowered. And I reailse that's okay for many, but I can't help thinking that Suzuki is just passing these motors off on us because we'll just accept them. They have other more modern engines in other products overseas, so why not let us have them as well? And I don't mean replacing the 2.5l motor. Just give us greater variety of choice. It's not like the SA public don't support the Suzuki brand here big time. It just feels like they're having a laugh by fobbing these 1.5l engines off on us. Long story short, I skipped on both cars because of the motor.

but my question to you is what car in the segment and weight class is powerful enough for you? when it comes to around 1000kg cars the 1.5 motor in these suzukis is on the higher end of power-to-weight ratio, considering other 1000kg cars have 1.2 motors(e.g. hyundai i10 at 300k) or a 1.0t with torque under 200nm (e.g. renault kiger at 300k+), and especially in the budget end of the segment its rare that these light cars will deliver figures over 90-100kw. when hyundai uses an also na 1.5 in the 1.4 tonne creta there isnt big kahoots about it like the suzukis?

Dude, Suzuki uses the K15B because its the most efficient non hybrid engine they have. South Africa is a price sensitive market and the Boosterjet engines are significantly expensive. Case in point, how many Vitara Turbos and Swift Sports have they sold? Not that many when compared with the Baleno's they move month after month. Even in India where Maruti spent a bomb localizing the 1L Boosterjet(because the last time they used it, the car failed because of the high import price), most Fronx buyers stick with the 1.2L K12M NA engine. Alot of carbuyers especially in this segment in the market want something inexpensive and reliable and a big honking turbo aint that.

Hi Juliet, I live outside the city. For everyday driving on the highway to the city and back, would you recommend the Suzuki fronx or the Kia sonet. Taking into consideration fuel economy and overtaking.

honestly, all insurance these days wants trackers. if you could set an area/zone one could say whenever you are out of that zone your insurance should be in normal mode. else it should be in the basic mode when at home. just a thought

I very nearly bought one for my wife but she did not like the shape of it. She opted then for the Toyota Urban Cruiser purely because the finance options are better than Suzuki's. I leked the Fronx, though. Stunning little car.

Been a Naked customer for many years. And Cover Pause has been around for more than 3 years. But thanks for sharing Juliette. With regards to names, Jolion, Florid (which was nick-named horrid, by many back in 2010), Tiggo, Vitz, Kwid, Beijing and Venue; none of them sound any better. It is great value for money. More car for your money, hence I ditched KIA. "I can't drive a car called that" is rather snobbish. I have never shifted into L or 2 since I had my Fronx (now 3 months). Its P, R, N, D. If you were in Reverse and want to drive, tap down shifter twice. As easy as that and you are in Drive. Or if in Park, tap down three times to D and drive off. Really not an issue. Proud Naked client and Fronx owner.

Oh, and the sound dampening is far better than those of its rivals. The gearbox is not that noisy. If you bought the car to race, have a heavy foot or rather want to listen to the gears shifting, then live with the growl. Or use the soundsystem and infotainment. It is one of the best out there. Heads up (pardon the pun (GLX)), Not all Xiaomi phones are compatible with the infotainment system.

So firstly Fronx stands for Frontier Next, meaning this is the next frontier for Suzuki vehicles as its their first coupe crossover. The name is dumb but Swace is worse(what does that even mean) Suzuki has a knack for making dumb names for cars at times. That aside its a good, inexpensive and reliable option for a small tech filled family crossover. You want something plusher than this then look to the more expensive trims of the Chery Tiggo 4 pro and Kia Sonet(if you dont like a split folding rear bench that is) but what is here is decent enough.

I love everything about this car. Styling and quality is great but that engine let's it down horribly, especially here at Joburg altitude where it loses just under 20%of its already puny power. No torque to speak of. Great value for money though if you can live with that.

Yr thoughts on insurance are correct but…..reality is that people will forget to do the changes and their friend ‘Murphy’ will have his say and this will/could cost you a bomb Secondly, be careful about giving insurance advice if yr not qualified to do so….you could be opening yourself to legal repercussions

Was considering this car in automatic but those loud indicators, low ground clearanceat 170 mm, multi colored interior, poor performance and cramped interior especially in the rear with a small boot just could not stack up to the Nissan Magnite Turbo Cvt that has a way better engine that has a punchy performance, way better ground clearance at 205 mm, much much more interior space, bigger boot, longer warranty of 6 years it is an absolutely no brainer and bought the Nissan Magnite and am enjoying every moment!!!
