The thing is that alot of black people didn't grow up seeing our love stories on big screens, small screens, photo ads, etc. When we did see black couples, often it was more about their struggles or the family. If you're fortunate, you grew up seeing black men in position as the heads of their homes, but i don't recall seeing many couples kiss or touch each other, or giggle together, or show appropriate affection. It's a joy to watch a black man comfortable enough to be all man, yet not all hard. That's a huge reason The Cosby Show was such a huge hit among black Americans in the 90s. It was huge with everyone, but it was a first for us. To see mostly black-looking black people, without the struggle story. I'd never seen many brown skinned little girls and women on tv. Often, the black men we were seeing for the past 2 decades have been gay and their softness was actually an affectation of femininity. And look at commercials. Half of all couples are gay. How often are black men shown with black women, especially brown-skinned black women, and brown children? As a white man, you may not ever notice this issue, but look at the comments....its alot of black women (and some men) saying "I want a love like that".
