@@figster414 cringe response for supposedly wanting Julio to have won... my point was that had their roles been reversed Julio would've had more energy and based off his history setting first two rounds could have won easily... all that to say, no Julio didn't win it this year, but that just builds more hype for next year in Seattle which he's since confirmed on instagram he'll participate in. he'll have his moment then and I wouldn't be surprised to see him make history again

Not saying he was robbed but there is a better way to do the derby. No bracket. Just everyone against each other, and all the homeruns carry over and count. After everyone has a round the bottom 3 are eliminated. After the 2nd round, 3 more are eliminated. Then you have the final 2. It might not always be close, but at least the person with the most homeruns ends up winning, and we don't have to see any "walk offs" to advance to the next round. Just hit as many as you can in the time given.
@KD-dp5gx
@KD-dp5gx 2 жыл бұрын
Can still result in 2 walk offs for each round, but yes I agree I would like to see that instead of current format
@allbrosdjay
@allbrosdjay 2 жыл бұрын
@@KD-dp5gx if they count all the homeruns instead of resetting back to zero every round we can only get 1 walk off and that would be the final. Even if you're safe for the next round you still want to hit has many as possible. I'm sure this idea has flaws, just haven't thought it through because i typed my original comment on a whim. All I want for sure is a system where the player with the most total homeruns is guaranteed to be the winner. I'm fine with the format we have now. I think it's better than the 10 outs format, but i think they can make this format even better.
@KD-dp5gx
@KD-dp5gx 2 жыл бұрын
@@allbrosdjay yea if they kept the running total that holds true, was thinking more of resetting each round. Not sure which is better there though. Thinking of a tie scenario batter A hits 30 hr in rnd 1, then 10 in 2 vs a guy who hits 20 and 20. I prefer the 20, 20 guy as he is likely to have a solid number in the finals too

It's funny how the MLB hypes a young, upcoming slugger for that years HR derby and then when some other rookie slugger is on the come up and takes the reign they totally ignore the previous guy they were hyping like Vlad who? MLB said Rodriguez set a record of 81, but didn't Vlad jr hit 91 in 2019 HR derby?? They clearly hype these dudes for ratings to try to get people interested. The new structure of the HR Derby is cool, but as a kid growing up watching Griffey jr win the derby in the 90s, I'm still a fan of and prefer the old school way where they have a certain amount of out to get as many home runs as possible.
