Truly amazing to see a young Dr. J being so analytical about his game and being honest about what he needed to work on. Nothing but the utmost respect for one of the true all time greats. That '83 championship was what really hooked me and developed my love for the NBA!!!!

In 1978 I heard the older dudes in Prince George's county where I lived as a minor in Coral Hills MD at the house address 4707 Quadrant street refer to Julius as DR FUNK DUNK.. It was simply s nickname the older local dudes gave him..I was a second grader at Kenmore Elementary school in Landover MD in PG county.. Those cats loved the DOCTOR..I did too & still do..I hero worshipped his illustrated image on the back marvel comics with Rick Berry for Spalding basketballs..I was a child of the late seventies..I was a DR J baby and fan.

And yet Doctor J doesnt get the props he deserves bcos they dont count his accomplishments in the ABA for me and my generation Doctor J was our Jordan the first to go airborn first to have a shoe deal first to have his own movie( The fish that saved Pittsburgh) the first to slam from the free throw line. Everyone wanted to be Doctor J. 3x Championships MVPs to me he slammed on everyone. I dont know how you can say one player is greater than the rest when the best played in different eras Russell has the most championships Jabbar set records multiple championships Chamberlain Magic and Bird and there was Julius Erving the Doctor to me the greaest of all time. Without Doctor J you people dont have your Jordan Doc should automatically be on Mt. Rushmore he was our hero 70s and 80si dont recognize Jordan as the greatest and since the Nets joined the NBA Doctor Js stats should count in ABAas well as NBA he should be in all the conversations of greatness nobody had ever seen the things Doc could do on the court but being a team game Dawkins was the weak linc he couldnt hold jabbar or Parrish until Malone took Dawkins spot and lost one game in the post season if he would of had the team magic and bird had numourous rings but unstoppable with the Nets
